they are looking for visa ineligibilities... primarily anything that might cause you to become a "public" charge after immigration, including but not limited to communicable diseases, previous drug use, etc...

The medical has a few parts involved.

1. Urinalysis

2. Chest x-ray to check for tuberculosis

3. Blood work to test for HIV and syphillis

4. Vaccinations

5. Physical examination

The first three are pretty straight forward and if you've had either a pee test, blood test or x-ray done before you'll know what to expect.

Vaccinations again are pretty straightforward. They are age and gender dependent and you are suggested to bring a list from your doctor of any past vaccines you have been given. The panel physician will review what you've had with the list to determine if any additional vaccines need to be given. they didn't do a urinalysis for my husband, or a physical exam, she just looked at him, while sitting in the chair in her office and said "you seem in good health", LOL. They did do the blood test and chest x-rays, but that was pretty much it. Lots of papers/questions though.

Are you sure they didn't do a physical exam for your husband? Because there is a specific Physical Examination part to that form which asks height, weight, blood pressure, etc as well as examination of various body parts.. if she just skipped over it and didn't complete that section then the Consulate might not accept the medical as being complete

I was there the whole time, but yes, she did take his blood pressure (again in her office), for height and weight, she just asked him. There was no actual physical exam like you would expect from a doctor, it was all done sitting across the desk from her. The nurse did, however, draw his blood.
