Yes, giving a false ID is a crime, but not having one or not producing one is not a crime. If local police departments usurp the authority of ICE, then not having one would be a crime and would create an entirely different environment for the police.

If you get stopped for a motor vehicle violation, you could be ticketed for not having a license or registration with you. If you don't pay the fine or appear in court, you won't be able to renew your license or registration in most states. The illegal won't pay the fine or appear in court and will continue on like nothing happened. Or in worst case senario, get new false documents.

You think ordinary citizens should carry with them, proof of citizenship and be asked by local police any time they are pulled over or questioned, to show proof of citizenship??? That's not the kind of America I want to live in.

Well, now you see part of what I have to deal with on a daily basis with my job. I work for a PD, and the brass upstairs tinkered with a similar idea a few years ago. It was the officers and the POA that ultimately shed some light on the scenario. There is a very large hispanic community here, most of which are already leery of law enforcement. If you added the additional function of immigration enforcement, then they feared that many would become even more adversarial with law enforcement. This why I am against this sort of power transfer. I know here, we will not arrest someone for not having an ID, or even ask their status. This is not a primary concern, and thus not a reason to arrest or detain someone. If we arrest someone for something unrelated, his information will be run through various databases and if it comes up that there is an ICE hold, or that he or she is illegally here, they will be referred to ICE for further action.

And there lies the problem, being forced to choose the lesser of two evils. We pay one way or another, clamp down on illegals and they clam up and stop talking, or let them do whatever they want so they will hopefully be good citizens. I'm sure law enforcement wants what's best for the entire community. I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too. I just wish that the illegals were subject to the same rules that I am.

I ignore her often, but I know she has a very hard time if she goes without attention from me once in a while. Look at how very hard she begs for it. So, out of compassion, I give her some. We have that kind of symmetry.

I admit to being fascinated by the amount of time out of your life that you are intent on spending trying to "school" me in the ways of PHWorld. There's honestly no win or lose over this, contrary to what your mental demons tell you. I can't imagine what would motivate me to stalk a person around from thread to thread attempting to get a rise out of them. Why my weaknesses, as you perceive them, are so important to you will remain a mystery because I doubt seriously that even you know why they mean so much to you.

How on earth you make out that I am trying to make you change or post differently is quite beyond me. I find your posts amusing, why would I want that to change?
