Hi again VJers,

I will be leaving Philippines on June 4, 2009 and my POE is Newark, New Jersey EWR. Has anyone gone through Newark airport for their POE? I may only have 1 1/2 hours for my connecting flight and i want to know if it is too short of time?

Below is the actual route.

Manila to Tokyo - Tokyo to Newark, New Jersey - Newark, New Jersey to Cleveland

Thank you.

I don't see any problem unless your flight from Manila to Japan will not be delayed. Last April 10 our flight was delayed because of technical problems. And we are just lucky because my connecting flight to Boston was delayed. It was such a long line at the customs and the immigration check. Just ask help from your airline attendants at your port of entry as soon as you arrive at Newark and they have a way of contacting your connecting flight (provided that your connecting flight is the same airline).

My POE is Newark. No, 1 1/2 hours lay over is very fine. Just make sure you get the 2 forms from the plane before you land in Newark so you wont be filling out before you fall inline in the custom. (I forgot the name of the forms. One form is for everybody to fill out, the other one is just for entering the country with the visa, i think that was I-94, not really sure. Dont worry they will give you instructions) Flight Stewardess are distributing those forms. Make sure you have your Visa pocket. When you get to the counter, they will ask you few questions like how did you met, when, etc. (thats weird to me, i felt that i was in the embassy still) then you will undergo finger scanner again and after that airport security will assist you to the immigration. The security will hold all your forms and visa pocket. To be honest I got scared on the security assistance, i thought something was wrong. You will have to wait for a few minutes and you will be fine. Ok a few reminders, US is very strict. Never bring a pirated DVD even you plan to put it in a CD holder. I saw one in the immigration i think she was an african or whatever, i saw how they check all her stuff including the cd case and check it one by one. Foods were confiscated. One more thing, never bring immitation bag like Lacoste, Louie Vuitton, Guess or any branded bags or else you will have a problem. Oh FYI, Plane foods are suck! But you are not allowed to bring food even a bottle of water. Goodluck and have a safe trip!

Thank you for the tips! They help a lot.

We changed the flight, so now there is a four hour layover. It was stressful to only have a short time because anything can happen.

If just in case na ma-delay flight mo,ask mo yung staff if there's available flight for you going to ur next destination..they will give it to u free, pra ma-catch mo yung next connecting flight mo.But since you say u changed your flight,I suggest bring books or magazine or something to read and to listen like iPod or mp3 player kc nakakaboring sa airport maghintay..

Happy trip.

Once past customs...you will encounter malcontents in disguise as employees of the airport and it's various vendors.

Don't allow these lazy, shiftless, ineffecient, malingerers influence your initial impression of the US.

We have to have a place on the East Coast to transfer passangers to other parts of the country, unfortunately the gene pool has been pretty much depleted around Newark.

Kinda reminds me of a sign along Interstate 80 when leaving NJ, it read: "Welcome to Pennsylvania...Where America Begins"!

It has since been replaced (Not PC, I guess) but it always did give me a chuckle.
