Hi, I'm freaking out, I've lost my embassy appointment letter and I have my interview on Thursday. I have the accompanying document telling me what I need to bring with me, but that clearly states that I need to present my appointment letter to get entry to the embassy! :( Luckily I wrote down when my appointment is, but will they admit me without it?

Depends on the embassy, but most want that letter in hand.

You may want to contact them and see what they want to do!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Unlikely they would.

Look up the contact number for the Embassy, ask them to fax you a copy of the letter from your file, with a covering letter explaining the situation.

They can certainly check with the back office when you arrive for security, but it'll delay you, so make sure you allow plenty of time. :)

Time to call the extortion line. London will have your name down at the gates, but it is best to have something with you. You will need to call 09042-450-100 and tell them what has happened, and that you need the weekly email code to put in the subject line of an email. There will probably not be enough time for them to get a hard copy letter, but they will be able to email you something to produce at the gates on the day. The email address is londonconsular@state.gov. In the email, explain what has happened. In the event that they do not reply in a timely fashion, your name will be on the list but having something to produce is obviously better than nothing. You might bring a printout as well of the email you sent to prove you have attempted contact.

It's not the first time it's happened. Good luck! :)

Thanks guys!

Just an update, I called the Embassy extortion line first thing this morning (actually very quick and helpful), they gave me a subject line code to send an email, and I got a response to that within an hour! They told me not to be concerned, just to print their email and bring that instead. Panic over!

Is this standard for all interviews or specific to London? We are in Brazil and my husband's interview is scheduled for Friday the 15th, and as of today, we have not received the letter in the mail. The only reason I found out about the interview was that I sent an email about two weeks ago asking what was the problem. I did send an email to the Consulate last week telling them that I hadn't gotten the letter yet and if they could send me an electronic copy, to which they reponded with a website listing all the documents. Would it be advisable to contact them again?

Thanks!
