Should Obama designate 2010 - as 'The National Year of the Bible'?

I have this really stupid dumb impression that the reason why settlers came here in the first place was to get

Religious Freedom!

Ironically, most were using essentially the same bible, but had many different ways of interpreting what it says. Still no two groups can agree on how to interpret it.

They came here because they were freaky-religious. They were in the "Zealot" category. Puritans were some f##ked up individuals. Unfortunately, they still exist today under different names.

Of course, Mormons were the "modern-day" freaky religious people, and the Puritans/Baptists tried to force them to abandon their religion, tried to outlaw it, killed them, etc. How amusing is that?

I know beyond a doubt that religious zealots are the worst forms of terrorists. And most of them are white.

I pretty much agree with that statement...and since I am obsessed with C.S. Lewis he has a quote I love that I probably posted on VJ before: ""Of all bad men religious bad men are the worst." But I also know there is a lot of good from people who are "religious" sometimes too.

I agree. There's just something about religion that turns normal arseholes into raging lunatics. There are a lot of extremes, actually. The people who are so sickeningly sweet that your teeth hurt after talking to them are almost always religious also.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Why do people like him?

That's the million dollar question. I'm convinced that a lot of people say they like him even if they don't because they're afraid not to. There's a great deal of pressure to be pro-Obama, and a stigma around being against him.

You are kidding right?

Indeed. There is nothing wrong with being healthily skeptical about what the Obama administration is capable of achieving, but lowering everything down to personal like/dislike of Obama is juvenile.

It's a destructive smear, and effective if you don't bother to think about what you are really doing by simply going on personality rather than policy. Seriously ###### up to base any kind of political thought on whether you personally like/dislike a particular person, no matter if it is the president. The GOP generally seem to be going with that line of thinking though, all or nothing politics, stupid is as stupid does.

I do know someone who said that they wouldn't vote for McCain because he divorced his first wife after she was crippled in that accident.

I'm sure there was other reasoning that went into the rationale - but it struck me as odd. A person's personal life has #######-all to do with their politics.

It shouldn't have relevance, but it does - it's as though people want their politicians to have lived in a vacuum. Real life is messy, politicians are real people living real lives and some aspects of their real lives are going to be a little bit messed up. That is actually a good thing, because who wants to be governed by someone who has never, ever made a mistake?

If anyone feels the pressure, just watch Fox News and pretty soon you'll be hating him based on inane and supercilious arguments.

And for the Kool Aid drinkers, watching CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and reading almost any magazine or newspaper will convince them that their love for Him is totally mainstream (not).
