Compost it, and include your kitchen scraps and other yard waste as well, then you can use the nice black stuff in a flower or vegetable garden later. :)

Just DO NOT put meat, bones, or corn cobs in the compost. They don't break down too easily, and meat fats could attract some pests to your yard.

If the compost gets too mushy and wet (which it can do if it is mostly grass), tear up some newspaper to sop up the moisture. You can also include paper plates and papertowels in the compost to keep the moisture levels under control.

If you have an out of the way corner of your yard you don't even need a compost container, just pile it up and let it rot.

Thanks again for all the tips. Reba, I will definitely keep this in mind. I don't have much in the way of table scraps, seeing as I eat mostly takeout and microwave dinners since I still live ALONE thanks to the endless delays of the immigration system, but that's a whole other story...... (just feel the need to vent about it at every opportunity :P ) . I will toss in some newspaper though. Considering the poor quality journalism that the daily paper (Chicago Tribune in my case) has devolved into - almost all ads and features with very little actual hard news - composting the paper may put it to better use than reading the silly thing.

Jean&John.. so the picture I have in my mind is one of a tiny ~100lb Filipina chugging away with a big smile on her face on top of an enormous John Deere tractor across a lawn stretching from here to tomorrow on the open Texas prarie on a warm summer evening as the sun sets off in the distance. Is that about right? Wow that must be a lovely sight indeed!

Mowing six acres, bagging was out of the question, if gone for a month, waited about three days and ran the mowers over it again, somehow the wind blew it away. Twin bladed Honda's work pretty well if you don't mind spending 600 bucks for a lawn mower, but with these or a single blade, they have to be razor sharp to do a good job. A dull blade doesn't do much good, just kind of beats your lawn to death. Leaves on a good lawn have to be picked up, especially Oak leaves, they will kill your lawn as well as pine needles. It's best to rake those up before mulching.

Wife that lived in condos most of her life suggested we do the same, ha, can't do that, like my three car garage with a short walk to the kitchen and privacy, but she is taking a great interest now in having her own flower garden, but developed a hatred for the rabbits that feed off of it. Reminds me, should be out putting up the garden fences.

Shoveling snow in the winter, cutting grass in the summer, and raking leaves in the fall gives you a chance to enjoy the great outdoors, LOL. Maintenance agreements in Venezuela run about 40 bucks a month, more like 400 bucks here, can cut a lot of grass for that.
