People please, do your RESEARCH. I work at the hospital that developed that vaccine. HPV is more serious than just a simple STD. HPV is linked to many cancers including but NOT limited to cervical cancer. Just because you have already been sexually active doesn't mean you necessarily have already been exposed to the several strains of HPV covered by this vaccine.

that's what i have been wondering about. but what about a required test to see if one has hpv and then require immunization. I thought it doesn't work once you have the hpv or did I misunderstand that. and why, if making it a requirement, have only the first shot mandatory for aos. who isn't going to save $200 instead of getting the next two shots (not sure how much it is per shot) when one has just spend a ton of money for the whole immigration process.

I will have an appointment with my doctor pretty soon and I will asked her about her opinion about gardasil. and maybe that will change my mind.

If you have been exposed to one strain covered by the vaccine you still need protection for the others that you have not been exposed to that are covered by gardasil. I will tell you my 13 year old daughter took the whole series and had no problems whatsoever. Cervical cancer is almost always caused by HPV. Now they are linking HPV tol cancers of the mouth as well.

I guess I have been very influenced by this documentary I saw on German tv (which was made by a show which I think does a good research). Side effects such as a severe rash in face, total numbness in legs, fainting and flu like symptoms, and a total of 800 cases in germany just left me wondering if the vaccine is save.

I believe that many people have had no side effects and have avoided cancer, which is great.

And maybe my doctor will convince me of the vaccine and I won't feel like I am forced to do something I don't want to do.

Just don't like this whole requirement thing.

Well count yourself lucky for going through a consulate that does not require you to start the cycle before receiving the visa. For Montreal you must show that you have started the cycle of Gardisil shots. For AOS, you need to show you have continued the schedule of shots. This means that I had my first shot in February for my medical in March... I am moving to the US in late June and marrying early August, so for AOS I will need to show I have completed the cycle, as that will be 6 months. I have no objections to the shot itself, I do have objections with forcing people who are already going through a very expensive immigration process to pay $500-$700 to do the shots. I have medical coverage through my fathers work (that I am still under) and through school, and neither of them would pay a dime for the vaccination. Its a very strange and unwarranted requirement, even if the shots itself are worth getting.

Its dumb for the shot to be required for marriage immigration, because 'ideally' a person marrying will have sex with only one person and won't be exposed to a large sexual population to contract the virus.

The HPV vaccine is about making money, more so than most other viruses, in my opinion, yours may differ.

I would never force my fiance to have this shot (she is too old, so it doesn't matter). If she was under 26, I would not let her immigrate until she was 27.

Frankfurt requires to have the first shot in germany. so I do have to start the cycle before I leave, too.

I was wondering though if you have to get the other two in order to get the cgc?

I don't think so, Franziska. They want to see that you've started it (if you're waiting for AOS to start the series) and unless I'm mistaken, don't follow it up afterwards (?)

My understanding is that all your vaccinations need to be up to date at the time of AOS. This means that if you're do for your second or third shot (or overdue) you must have it. With that said there's probably a chance you would get approved without it... It depends on if you're willing to take an RFE or not. I'd rather just get them done now and not have to worry later.
