HPV immunization under review

I am currently waiting for our noa2. When I read about the required immunizations, I got very upset. I had just seen a documentary about hpv that wasn't very promising and showed cases with severe side effects.

I tried to find out if there is a waiver to avoid the hpv vaccine. Instead of finding a waiver I came across an article from May 7th, 2009. It seems like there is hope that there may be an end to the requirement.

I thought some of you might be interested, below you will find the link:

If it does not change, as a K-1 you do not have any required vaccinations.... You ought to be able to delay your AOS until after you are 27

YMMV

To me it seems like immigrants are used as an extended study, since the immunization isn't required for US citizens. Plus as far as I am informed correctly if one has had sexual activity the chances that the HPV still has an effect is slim. Just doesn't make much sense to me. They just know that we are desperate to get the GC and be with our loved ones.

Is there anyone out there who feels the same about the whole deal?

I feel exactly the same. This vaccine is still new, it has limited effects for people our age (I'm 23) and with pretty dangerous side effects. I don't want to take it either and it is ridiculously expensive. I am very upset with this entire procedure and feel like a little lab rat. I swear, if I get any side effects from this shot I'll sue the Government

I am extremely happy that this has hit the news.

Many American women are surprised when they hear that I am forced to have this vaccine if I want to live with my fiance/husband and say that they wouldn't feel comfortable getting it themselves.

As the article states, it's pointless giving it to immigrants as 1- it's only transferable through sex so not at any worse risk to the American population than any other STD and 2- most women applying for residency have already had sex.

London allows you to get the vaccine after arriving in the U.S when applying for AOS, so I took that option in the hope that something like this would come up, and I wouldn't have to have it when I got there. I don't think that's likely as I'm applying for AOS this summer, but it's good to see a change might be happening. I agree with the article that this law contradicts everything that America claims to be - for free choice.

I am hoping that if they decide to change it that it doesn't take forever for them to make it effective. things concerning the law seem to always take forever.

Not only do I think negatively about the vaccine (for people who have had sex) but I also think it is so mean to use people who are desperate to become permanent residents and more. I've heard so many people say we have no choice, but to get the shot. next thing we know we all have to color our hair the same color...just kidding...but I bet a lot of people would go far for permanent residency.

Do I understand this right that we only have to have the first shot for aos? What sense would that make?

Yes, you only need to show that you've had the first shot of the vaccine for AOS. The idea is that you get the others months afterwards, though I'm guessing many women don't.

And you're right, almost all of the people applying to be residents are doing so for a reason. They have ties to America (a job, family, safety) and of course they need the residency approval, so it's easier to get the shot. I also think it's unfair and quite cheeky for them to use such "desperate" (is that the word?) people.

Do they require men to take the shot? Isn't the shot only for women?
