Afternoon, all!! Needed to vent...

The past 4 months have been hectic with learning the visa info, spending whatever time with my baby and WORK, WORK, WORK!! When I first started, we were told it would be temporary in order to help catch up before the end of the fiscal year. The time came and went and since about 6 people left or were let go, us newbies got to stay as they became shorthanded. Newbies are given a 120 day probation period and it was up as of yesterday...meaning we (my hired group of 5) are all now permanent employees.

Well...I woke up to see a msg in my voicemail and it was from the supervisor who hardly ever calls the employees. My heart started pounding and I got sick to my stomach. Why would he be calling on the 120th day except to let me go? They can do that and not have to call us back for employment. After the 120 days, if there is a layoff, they have to call us back when there is work to do and in the meantime collect unemployment. Those of us who do make it to the 121st day get a $1.44 raise (the pay is pretty good as it is-so that is a good bonus) What is so demeaning about all of this is I know I am a great employee who works circles around most of the others ( I hate to not be busy) and I can be let go for ANY reason.

As I am not started in the visa process (other paperwork has not been received yet) it has got me worried as I would have been able to sponsor my husband financially. I hate the ups and downs of employment but the one thing it made me realize is that I have a very loving and supportive fiance and that I want to work harder toward my goal of being self-employed (I write children/teen literature)

Please keep your fingers crossed til I find out what is going on.

why wouldn't you just post all this AFTER you've checked your voicemail??

i would think listening to a VM from the supervisor is much more important than posting on VJ about a VM from the supervisor ...

She must have listened to it already, or she would know what was going on. I took it as, she had to meet with him or something, as she still didn't know what the issue was. M.

LOL Of course you're right and yes, I HAD checked the VM yesterday. I posted this today after calling him 3 times yesterday and 2x today. I'm not as stressed out as yesterday (I was useless) because my thinking is if it was THAT important, he would have made a bigger effort to call me back by now. I talked to one of my other supervisors and he had no idea what it could be about and had even said he'd let him know that I was trying to get ahold of him. It just drives me nuts that he called on that all-important day and not let me know what about. Oh well......I think I'm safe :::fingers crossed:::

I thought about that but the others that were hired with me hadn't been called. And thanks for everyone's well wishes....

Don't worry yourself too much. Things have a way of working themselves out if they're meant to be. Take my Andy. He didn't have a job til 1 month before my K1 interview, mind you we had a co-sponsor but it wasn't needed. We got through the AOS process with just 1 glitch (my greencard saying I'm male but that's in the process of being fixed) and now he's working part time, going to school part time while I work full time.

Point being, at the beginning of this whole process - we didn't seem to stand a chance in hell, but we managed to get through this trial called immigration. If you two are both strong in your will and your love, I have faith you two will manage to get through this as well.

Good luck. (F)
