My First Day as a Walmart Greeter

So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter,
a good find for many retirees,
I lasted less than a day......
About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud,
unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids,
Yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.
As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart.
Nice children you have there. Are they twins?'
The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say,
'Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7.
Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?'
So I replied,
'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am,
I just can't believe someone slept with you twice.
Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.'

My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work!!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Good one.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Their job is far more complicated than that, give you a sticker if you bring something in for return, and if you walk out with a big box with like a computer or a TV set on the inside, they want to see your receipt.

But if you walk in and ask for a specific item, like where would I find a nail clipper, they tell you, you have to ask the manager. I gather to become a manager, you have to know where the nail clippers are in those stores.

No more check out gals, stockboys, packers or whatever, now, everyone is an associate. I understand the suits come in and tell the manager where to put the nail clippers, but they themselves can't make up their minds, whenever you walk in, they are in a different spot. Understand they want you to walk around so you buy something you really don't need.

Have you ever worked retail? I currently work PT in a chain store and they move stuff around ALL THE TIME. There's no way someone can know where everything is. And of course, idiots come in the store thinking that we carry everything under the sun. They come in a crafts store looking for things that only a greeting card store or hardware store might have. When they get pissy about me not knowing what little object they're holding and whether we have it, that's when I call for the manager.
