Can I cash a canadian check in USA?

My CRA direct deposit account was rejected due to incomplete or invalid bank information. On my assessment, they want me to send Form T1-DD(1), "Direct Deposit Request - Individuals but it will be too late for me if I'll send it now. My question is, can I cash a Canadian check in USA? I had a Chase checking bank account......is there a fee to do this?

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. I'll tell you the truth. if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself to the sea, and that does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen. it will be done for him. Therefore I'll tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (MARK 11:22-24)

 sorry.. but I haven't been able to.. Navy Fed (my bank) won't take a CDN check at all..

Perhaps some of the others will, but I haven't been successful. I deposit all CDN currency into my CDN account (just mail a check up to Canada) and transfer through Customhouse.

I think it depends on the bank, but they may put a very long hold on it to wait for it to clear.

Probably safer to mail the check to your Canadian bank for deposit.

get your name change added to your CDN accoutn.. 1/2 the people will write checks out to your new married name (if they know you are changing your name) 1/2 will write to your maiden name, and some people will get all confused and just leave it blank :P

Here is another post about the subject.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/lofivers...hp/t134683.html

It all depends on who is your American Bank. If you have enough money in your American bank account, they should cash it. HOWEVER, really check (no pun intended) with the bank to make sure there isn't hidden foreign check cashing fees, or some other nonsense. Most likely they will give you a slightly lower exchange rate, but not enough to make any meaningful difference.

Credit Unions and their ability to handle foreign currencies is a whole other story.

With Chase I have been asked a $50 US fee to deposit a $75 CDN check... which is almost the total of the check itself...

<_<

So I send them to my mom in Canada for a big 80 cents stamp :P and my mom deposits it in my CDN account

I deposit Canadian $ cheques into my US checking account (state credit union) all the time. It usually takes them between 7 to 10 days to clear, and no fees.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I just called Chase about the fees and I was told that they don't charge for fees but the money exchange rate is based on their rates. For i.e., $1200 CDN = $1005 US but on yahoo ...$1200 CDN = $1043 US......

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. Well I rarely change more than $200 at a time so the difference is minimal for me. Still cheaper to have a $5 than using the bank...
