Doesn't really matter how much money you throw if there's no organised government structure to distribute it and facilitate improvements.

I don't condone the actions of either side - I just don't understand why people's POV on this issue has to be so one-sided. Neither the jews nor the muslims have particularly clean hands here.

The big sticking point of course is Jerusalem - which should never have been handed over. It should have been made an independent international city, like the Vatican in Rome.

Fishdude-I do not often post on emotive political discussions, I mainly read--and quite often ( even though you express your POV very well), I do not agree with you; different points of view, and that is what makes it all interesting; however, have to say I totally agree with you on this one.

The issue of a sovereign Palestinian state is a very valid one. However you look at it, there's clearly no justification for terrorism, but neither is there a justification for sending in your military to disrupt peoples lives whenever you feel like making a show of strength.

It just goes to show that the Palestinians are essentially regarded as the n*****s of the middle-east.

Hamas winning the election was not unpredictable. Noone ever seems to learn that if you oppress people (whether intentionally or not) the resentment finds its way into the national politics with the result that extremist parties end up with major gains. Happened on both sides - when Ariel Sharon was elected (a former general with a dubious past that included accusations of war crimes) that wasn't exactly a step towards reconciliation and compromise was it?

The Israeli economy, all by itself, could not create and support the 4th most powerful army in the world. You, and I, and all American taxpayers, are footing the bill. And it's in violation of our own laws.
