America, like many countries has a class system - whether we choose to recognise it or not.

We have rich and we have poor. Which country doesn't? I fail to see why this is marketed as some sort of 'revelation'.

It's not - I'm just amazed that someone would make the claim that someone like GWB is representative of the average American. On every level, it just isn't true.

As I said, you might as well claim that Donald Trump is representative of an average member of the American public.

I'd go as far as saying the average American does not exist. This country is simply too large and too diverse.

bullshit...the average american is not a texan millionaire..it is a middle calss working chopf##k like us

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

But beyond 'middle class' and 'working', what else defines the average American? Ok, the average American probably drives a car. The average American probably has some credit card debt. What else?

How much is middle class, anyway?

OK I'll accept your suggestion that there is no such thing as an 'average american'. Let me ask you a question - how many people do you know are millionaire sons of former presidents or members of congress? Not many I'd suspect. In fact, how many of us can honestly say that?

Part of the problem with this country is that the super-rich (as represented by the likes of GWB) have no conception of what it means to be poor. If they did, I don't think they'd be out there spending all their money on unneccessary wars, for instance.

According to Wikipedia, 95% of Americans say they are in the middle class.

Here is Wikipedia's definition:

Most economists define "middle-class" citizens as those with net worths of between $125,000 and $250,000. Those with net worths between $250,000 and $500,000 typically are categorized as upper middle class. Those with net worths below $125,000 can be further broken down into working class to lower class.

Part of the problem with this country is that the super-rich (as represented by the likes of GWB) have no conception of what it means to be poor.

No argument there.

If they did, I don't think they'd be out there spending all their money on unneccessary wars, for instance.

I don't know about that. India is a young democracy with many poor people who have ascended to political power. Some of them are incredibly wasteful. I use India as an example because I can't think of any poor people who've ascended to power in the US :P Which probably proves your point ;)

The top three wealthiest senators are Democrats: John Kerry of Massachusetts, with a net worth of at least $164 million.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in the news with the release of her memoir, reported a net worth ranging from $352,000 to $3.8 million.

wonder if that includes bill?

According to Slate magazine, George W. Bush has a net worth of around $9 million to $26 million

Varies that much? And he just hit 60 .. time for him to start 'rebalancing' his portfolio into more stable bonds LOL.
