Hello Vj,

My US Green Card application is still pending and I just received my Authorization for parole and my question is, do I still need to apply for tourist Visa in order for me to visit Canada? FYI, I am a Malaysian citizen.

Love,

Ugou

If your citizenship requires a visa, you will continue to need one in order to visit, until such time as you are in possession of the GC. AP only allows you to attempt re-entry into the USA and does not change entry requirements of other any other country

payxibka has it correct. Malaysian citizens do require a visa to visit Canada unless they already have a Green Card. The good news is that you will probably not have much difficulty getting the visa. Here is the link to the information you need:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp

The link at the bottom of the page shows the countries that require visas

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

When my husband and I visited London last year, he'd already had his conditional GC for over a year, but we were told he still needed to apply for a visa because he did not have US citizenship and Thai citizens must apply for a tourist visa to visit the UK.

Was that not true? Could he have just gone over with his GC and not applied for the tourist visa?

Mexico, Canada and some Cariribean islands allow an PR to visit with only the GC. This is by special exemption.

YMMV

I inquired about my wife (Colombian) with a greencard - for a stopover visit in London - and they said no visa is required (I was told that they would give her a 90 day entry on the spot) - but we found cheaper tickets through Holland, so didn't go through London.

Perhaps the question asked makes the difference - my question was - Does a greencard holder need a visa to visit UK - the greencard holder has a Colombian passport? Perhaps putting the greencard fact prior to putting the foreign country first makes the difference. Good Luck

There's a handy 'visa calculator' on Delta's website, here, which takes into account your citizenship, country of permanent residence, countries you're transiting through and even the type of passport you have to work out if you need a visa. Of course, it comes with a disclaimer that you should check with the relevant consulates but it's a good pointer to whether a visa is needed for your specific circumstances or not.

Adjustment of Status from K-1 (Very abridged version)

05/20/08 - POE: Chicago O'Hare

07/18/08 - Married

08/30/08 - I-485/I-765 mailed...

03/17/09 - Card production ordered (no notification received!)

03/26/09 - Green card received (196 days)

Removal of Conditions

02/15/11 - I-751 mailed to VSC...

02/22/11 - NOA1 (received 03/03/11)

04/04/11 - Biometrics appt (notice received 03/19/11)

08/22/11 - * * * t u m b l e w e e d s * * * (T+6 months and counting)

09/20/11 - Service Request #1

10/26/11 - Service Request #2
