Migraines and tension headaches.

I'm still recovering from a migraine I had last night. Even when I catch them early, the after-effects leave me exhausted for an entire day afterwards. I hate it. :(

I've had chronic tension headaches since I was nine and I had my first migraine at twelve. Thankfully, I can treat my migraines with otc meds; I usually take a mixture of a nsaid and tylenol, plus children's benadryl. I do have a standing rx for phenergan if I can't keep anything down.

Stress and depression are my biggest triggers because those cause me to over-sleep and under-eat. I also have TMJ, and my night time stress bruxing tends to exacerbate my tension headaches.

Sooooo...anyone else? What meds do you take? What are your triggers? Anyone else feeling as crappy as I am right now?

Sorry you're feeling miserable. I've had some bad headaches but they are rare. I usually get a headache when I'm dehydrated. Peppermint tea is suppose to help with headaches, nausea and it also calms the nerves. :)

I've heard from sister jinky that said tea is actually made with this, not peppermint:

I can't say that my case is chronic, but I do get them maybe 3-6 times per year. Mine are incredibly debilitating, to the point that If I get one at work, I need to call someone to pick me up and drive me home. I found out about 18 months ago that there were some dietary considerations with regards to my headaches. Turns out caffeine and more specifically, coffee does it for me. I have only had a couple of cups of coffee since then (I had to have some timmies and roll up the rim ) and have only had one headache since then.

I used to get horrible migraines to the point where I couldn't even open my eyes and then one day I felt like I couldn't even lift my head. Someone recommended a very good chiropractor and he told me that my neck was tilting forward and my vertebra were not sitting straight up which is what was causing the painful migraines. Six months of therapy and I was like a brand new person.

I still get bad headaches from time to time but not as bad as they used to be, mainly when I'm hungry or stressed at work but I just take a couple of Excedrin Migraine and that's that.

^I may or may not be able to say from experience that cannabis actually makes my headaches worse. :innocent:

I used to get migraines all the time. I was diagnosed when I was one year old, and they continued until well into my 30s. Then they changed to cluster headaches, which I dunno which is worse really. At least with a migraine you know after you throw up the pain will be gone soon. Clusters can come and go all day long for several days on end, its very frustrating.

But then about 3 years or so ago I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, and once that was treated and under control, my headaches are pretty much entirely gone. I had *one* migraine last year that lasted about 2 days, and haven't had one since. I get minor tension headaches still, but nothing as dibilitating as I used to get.

I would second the suggestion of a chiropractic treatment for headaches, plus massage and accupuncture always helped me. And an understanding family to just leave you alone in the dark until it goes away is always a boon!

I get migraines at the very least once a month. I haven't found anything that works for me other than slightly helpful changes (ie: no bright lights, and no staring at TV, monitors, books, etc.)

For some reason, I always crave Mcdonald's plain hamburgers when I have one  - does anyone else get cravings when they are in the midst of a full on migraine?

I get some pretty awful headaches as well. Chiropractic treatment and massage generally helps, but most otc meds do nothing for me. I can't take anything like vicodin or darvoset, so I'm pretty much stuck with Excedrin, a dark room, and no noise.

I hope you feel better!

Take some Benadryl to offset the caffeine in the Excedrin! That way you can at least maybe get some sleep.

Man -- you guys are brave re. chiros. I won't let one touch my neck, if only because we had several chiro-induced neck injuries come into the ER while I was working there. However, a massasge sounds heavenly right about now.

LaL - cravings? Lucky ducky. Maybe your migraines are triggered because of a lack of salt and grease in your diet? ;)
