Hi rheanick, yes you have to report your marriage first here in the U.S. before you can amend your passport to your married name.Anyway you can do it both at the same time while you are here in the U.S. but if you plan to renew it in the Philippines, you have to report your marriage first here in the U.S.

It happened to my friend..she went to the Philippines last February for her vacation and her passport was about to expire so she decided to renewed it there but she thought she can renew it using her married name..the DFA told her she can renew it but still using her maiden name because she didnt report her marriage yet so the DFA told her as soon that she get back here in U.S. report her marriage at the nearest Philippine Consulate and wait a mail from the DFA that they received it and that her marriage has been reported.

I will do mine both at the same time.By the way you can do it by mail if you live far from the Philippine Consulate in your area.

Hopefully, someone else here has been through it. The requirements are available online for the Philippine consulate in San Francisco. You have to make an appearance in person. It's $50 for the renewal, and $25 for the amendment. There are lots of stuff you have to bring with you, a NSO birth certificate, and three certified copies of your marriage certificate, copies of your green card, and both identification for both of you. Forms are available online, and have to be filled out before applying.

We need to do it too, and the wife is worried that her first name shown on the green card is different from the way it is shown on her passport and BC. I forget which way it is shown on our Marriage Certificate.

Three certified copies of marriage certificate? One certified copy of marriage certificate cost less than USD 30.00. That would be USD 80 - 90... :(

Thanks for the heads-up. Need to prepare money for this renewal.

Thanks for sharing your friend's experience. While reading it, I realized that i also have change my status and name with my SSS (philippines). Anyway, that's another topic.

Thank you very much.

rheanick: you are lucky. you live under the jurisdiction of the L.A. consulate & they do outreach programs (they go to other states to help keep costs down)

lucky us! we have to travel to Chicago from Oklahoma to do ours.

one thing i did notice, different consulates require different things....why?....i have no clue. but, below is the L.A. consulate forms & requirements.
