I started dating my first boyfriend when I was 14, he was 15. (for the record, we dated until I was 18). Anyway, my mom put me on birth control pills when I was 15 because she said that when the time came she wanted me to be ready and to not feel uncomfortable about it. I think this was a great move on her part!!! When we actually did have sex for the first time (about 18 months after my mom put me on the pill originally) I didn't have to tell my mom like I would have needed to if she hadn't taken the initiative to put me on them before. That saved a lot of embarrassment for me!

I do not think that being on the pill made me have sex earlier than I would have anyway. I agree that some teens will and some teens wont, but I always knew I was one of the teens that would! I'm not saying it's unrealistic for some teens to be abstinent....but it's DEFINITELY UNREALISTIC to assume that all teens will be abstinent! So do them a favor and teach about birth control too.

And I definitely plan to put my daughters on the pill when they get to be around that age too.

Kids engage in a lot of things you just can't talk em out of.

LIke sex, drinking, drugs, Alcohol, drag racing. Etc.

Best thing to do is talk to them about it and provide them with condoms, taxis, needles, and seat-belts.

Kids will be kids.

Abstinence is realistic. I don't understand why abstinence is unrealistic. It's a term. For those who follow abstinence, they are realistic. People practice them. They also would practice safe sex as well. That is realistic as well.

What the heck is going on with this world? No wonder a majority of people living are average folks who don't hold honors at their school.

Unrealistic makes things sound like they don't exist or something.
