That whole family is just silly....

Yes, abstinence is the only foolproof way to avoid pregnancy....but I agree with the dad. Our schools need to teach not only abstinence (like my high school did) but also how to use contraception! I'm not sure if I agree with the statement that abstinence is unrealistic for teens. I think abstinence is realistic for SOME teens and not for others. But everyone needs to be aware of how to use contraception!!! I mean come on, some teenages are going to have sex. period. And some aren't....so just help them and our country out by teaching how to put on a condom!

That, and teaching girls to value themselves as more than a conduit for procreation. There is life outside of family, women have a value outside the home. I don't get how girls in this day and age think that getting pregnant is their best course of action but they most assuredly do.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

My favorite line:

"Regardless of what I did personally, I just think that abstinence is the only way you can effectively, 100 percent foolproof way you can prevent pregnancy," she said.

She thinks abstinence is the only 100 percent foolproof way to prevent pregnancy? She THINKS?

Oi.

Anyway, I don't judge her, I had my son at 19. However, I have definitely taught my kids self-respect and the importance of safe sex as well as waiting until you've found the person you want to spend your life with. I think Bristol can learn something from this experience and maybe make something good out of it.

My only hope is that teen girls put out. Give your daughters' condoms people.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Obviously abstinence isn't a 100% failsafe method. If it were, there would be no baby Jesus.

You can teach your kids all you want about waiting for the right person etc. But let's face it. Teenagers want to have sex. They always have. They always will. It's programmed into the human brain. I remember our sex education class. We had it in grade 6. It was somewhat interesting. But ultimately forgettable. Ultimately it's up to the parents to pound it into their kid's brains to wrap it up and take the pill. Preferably both. I'd recommend starting this lesson earlier rather than later. (you know, at the age when kids still listen to their parents)

I still find it hard to listen to birth control advice from a teenage mother who's own mother had 5 kids. I might as well ask the Octomom for advice.

Oh for heaven sakes. First she said abstinence was not realistic now that her beau left she says it is. What a b1tch to regret the baby after the father dumped her. She's a dumb teenager that doesn't know any better and it shouldn't reflect on the parents because she is her own person who makes he own life choices obviously. She should have no say in the matter because she's just as average as everyone else. The only thing that makes her less unaverage is the fact her Mom was nominated for VP of the republican ticket. Her Mom couldn't be anymore average than it gets which is why they selected her and it was a dumb move. Plain has no more chance in 2012 and if she has any sense she'd give up that notion now and appreciate the good life she has out of the spot light. Nuff said. Sheesh.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I really think the bolded was uncalled for.

Actually, you can teach your children about waiting and other moral values. Teenagers do want to have sex and you should also teach about responsible birth control, but it's not unheard of for teenagers to also follow the moral values they've been taught. It has to be discussed at home and there are teens who will still have sex, but there are also teens who won't.
