Well, there are big differences. Prostitution is essentially requires having sex with multiple partners, porn does not (although of course, a prostitute may have a very small or a very wide client base and a porn star may co star with more than one partner but you get the idea). It is also possible, even likely that the sex in porn is simulated (although, what the difference is somewhat baffles me :) ) while the sex for the prostitute might be, the intention for the client is going to be 'real' sex. So, while porn and prostitution are aspects of the sex industry, they are not interchangeable.

Presumably what you want is for there to be some uniformity in 'paid for sex' activity. Good luck with that :)

What porn are you watching?

Well, I have to confess I am pretty ignorant about porn but I heard that porn stars simulate sex. Who am I to argue?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Porn stars are paid actors....they're not being paid for sex.

If you can call that acting

 It's some of the best acting I've ever experienced.

Experienced? Tell us more...

Well, some of the stuff that they show on like Cinemax might be, but a vast majority of porn is hardcore, no simulation there :P

They could be - but that doesn't mean the differences between the two professions disappear :)

That difference isn't particularly clear cut. Technically, hiring a person for the express purpose of having sex with another person for the promise of money is pandering.

The person doing the acts is still a prostitute whether they are offering their bodies to the general public, or to a narrow range of "private" clients for the purpose of film-making.

Ok, I am not trying to stir up anything, but more likely I have been thinking about this for the past week.

Why is it that in America-- prostitution is illegal but making porn isn't? Aren't the actors in Porn movie get money to have sex?

Hell, I even googled and there is an yahoo answer which kind of make sense but then again I have my questions

Quote from yahoo answers--- prostituion is when people have sex for money. porno is when people make videos of themselves having sex. and if they get paid for it then it is paid by a company, which is legal.

So say going with this answer, a company decides to treat its male and female staff with sex and bring in both male and female stripper..........will that be still called as prostitution or will that be a company retreat 39.gif

Ok fight away now

There are many loopholes to the prostitution thing also. The only prostitutes I see getting arrested are the crack addicted ones who walk up and down the street. The ones at the "happy ending" massage parlors, strip clubs and the ones who work out of their homes are left alone.

That's not what they are doing though. They are hiring actors to 'simulate sexual acts' for the purpose of promoting a story line in a film - not hiring someone to have sex. It's a fine blurry line but art will win out!

Simulating sexual acts infers that they are not in fact having sex.

In "soft" porn that is the case, it isn't in hard core.

The difference we're talking about amounts to barely more than "I'm a porn star because I sell my body for money to make movies" Vs. "I'm a porn star because my client wanted to film himself having sex with me".
