I am thinking about it myself, but I becoming wary of the prospect.

One guy and his wife bought land down in Mindanao, built a house, and several hot houses for growing vegetables. After a couple of years, they gave up and ended up moving to Canada. Things were getting a little too dangerous around them. It was "fun" at first, but eventually the situation seemed all too real, once they became fully established in the area.

Our good friends that were witnesses at our wedding moved near Baguio City last year. They had problems adjusting to life back in the Philippines, and developed breathing problems. One or more of the family of four is sick with some ailment at any one time. He is bored and spends his time at an expat bar, and has fallen completely off the wagon. She suspects he is cheating with every woman he meets, and has become addicted to pain killers. Not a healthy situation, especially with two kids.

So, whatever problems you may have, they will not be solved by moving back to the Phillipines, they may be made worse. Any American in the Philippines will be considered rich, and your wife's extended family will seek you out. Medical and dental are cheap, and that is a big plus.

I have not given up on the idea, but I am sure thinking it through first.

The air around baguio has to be in the worst of the worst, citizens there wear surgical masks every day. There is no doubt when you see that many people wearing air purifying backpacks. I have traveled over much of that beautiful country, hope to never be in baguio city again........

Yeah I spent time there. Beautiful and COOL place IF you could see the views. To many trikes and jeepneys there polluting it.

No desire to go there again.

To me anywhere in Mindanao is NOT a good place to retire to. MILF is expanding there area. Davao seems safe for awhile but who knows about the future.

Can you ask a more open ended Question Next time?

In my opinion, If an American doesn't consider PI for retirement then he has made a mistake.

I can see health issues from being a issue.

But other than that, It's kinda of a no brainer to retire in PI.

if you do decide on buying property, let your wife haggle and transact with the owner. as much as possible dont show yourself because when they see that an american is the buyer, they will definitely jack up the price.

I agree!

Hmmmm... I can't see anything wrong if American wants to retire here in the Philippines. First, in health issue, its negotiable because you can always have medicine. If you get too old, and you live in a place where there's winter, the body can't just endure the too much cold. But here in the Philippines, you're problem is the high temperature during but have remedy, you only need to put aircon in your house. Besides, people here in the Philippines are more caring to the elders than there in US.

I wanted to retire here in the Philippines. It's suitable for me and my hubby-to-be because we can spend our lives together until our end without struggling too much, for having enough. A nipa house near the beach is marvelous and a farm!

But other than that, It's kinda of a no brainer to retire in PI.

For those so challenged with English please let me interpret:

"But other than that, It's kinda of a no brainer to retire in PI" means "For those who are thinking about it, to consider retiring in the PI is a relatively easy decision"

OK now for you, I was not asking if I should retire in PI, read the post, I simply asked a nice place to live, now maybe you are challenged in the English language, but once again if you dont understand or like the question I asked then simply dont respond. Some people are such internet bad azzes!

Somewhere in Cebu Province/City is a good place to retire..close to beaches, lots of good restaurants also, malls. Maybe because i am from Cebu...

Me and my woman are planning the same thing. I am still young but already know that we will most likely end up in the PI.

We're thinkin somewhere near Moal Boal. We like it there, nice and peaceful. Bohol is cool, but the beaches are overrated IMO. Bantayan's beaches are way sweeter.

Two can play this. My post was not intended for you... so please do not respond to mine, unless it is specifically directed to you and I request a reply. Which by the way on this post I do not.

YMMV
