$70 for I-864?

Do we have to send a $70 check for the I-864? (USCIS website says the Dept of State "charges a fee of $70 when the Affidavit of Support is reviewed domestically. This does not apply when the Affidavit of Support is filed abroad.").. I am in the US filing for an AOS from B2.

Also, does the I-864 need its own copy of the passport or birth cert? (I thought it was a supporting document for I-485?)

No, you don't pay the money if USCIS is looking at the form.

Proof of U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident status is required for joint and substitute sponsors and for relatives of employment-based immigrants who file this form. Petitioning relatives who have already filed proof of their citizenship or immigration status with Forms I-130, Form I-129F, I-600 andI-600A do not need to submit proof of their status with this form.
