God's Blessings On All,

Well, it's looking each day like it's a sure thing, divorce. Such is Life. I believe my wife's plan is to remain in USA until immirgration sends her packing. What pitfalls should I look out for? I'll be contacting USCIS about my legal obligations if any after divorce. In my heart I don't believe this was all planned out by my wife and I still wish her the very best and will help her in any way I can. Well, I still follow my Lord and Savior's Jesus Christ"s Golden Rule and that is simply to Love! Thanks to all for all your advice and help over the past 2 years. God's Blessings ON All.

Rocky, sorry the marriage didn't work out. You'll be in my prayers. God, of course, likes us to use our free will to take some initiative, and that's what you need to do: get all the information possible on your obligations.

You may not have seen this coming, and likewise, you may not have always understood her motives. We want to believe the best about people, especially those we love. But at this point, part of you needs to be completely objective, to educate yourself and protect yourself.

You may have to imagine the worst case scenario, that is, you may have been used for a visa and you may be on the hook financially for a very long time, even after a divorce. So get the facts, ask pointed questions here, call the USCIS, and hang in there. You acted in good faith and will always be able to live with the fact that you were a loving person. Now you have to be an informed person, too. Stay strong.

I've listened to people caution the USC in these situations to take care about being falsely accused of abuse.... apparently this gives the immigrant some leverage toward remaining in the US on their own terms, while causing all kinds of trouble for the USC. Don't know the details of your situation, but I would make sure that the USCIS knows your status and the grounds under which the divorce is justified.

Once your wife's application to adjust status is approved your I-864 obligation is in effect and divorce has no effect on that. Has your wife been granted LPR status yet? If not (or even if so) you might want to notify your District or Sub office that a divorce may be in the making. Your wife's heart may not be so pure as yours.

And to add to Yodrak, Rocky if you move, as her primary sponsor, even if divorced, don't forget to send in an I-865 Change of Address form as well. Yodrak, you're such a stinker! ;)
