Hello, my future wife doesnt have a job and has 3 kids. I am making around 35k a year for myself. I was wondering if we get married, would she lose her food stamps and the other government help she is getting?

If she's the USC then she has to prove she can support you financially, either alone or with a co-sponsor. Receiving government assistance for herself and her 3 kids now might prove problematic at an AOS interview.

Sorry, but that's the best information I can give you based on what you've said.

If she is US citizen and on public assistance this should not be an issue as long as she can get the help of a joint sponsor.

I would also think that once you got married you'd want her to be able to get off government assistance as soon as the two of you could financially afford, yes?

Why would we need a sponsor if im making around 35k? Also why would it be problematic for the AOS interview?

yes she would loose her welfare. you basically have to have no income to get a welfare check. sometimes if u have a small income u can get food stamps and if the children are young u can still get the medical for them. if u get married they will use ur income and she will loose her welfare.

In the US.

im really sure that someone will come with the correct answers to this so anything i say is just a guess.

i think that if u use the 35k it has to be able to show support for the household that being four people. they use ur adjusted income on ur federal tax form you fill out each year, not the amount you made before taxes.

if she receives child support that also helps because it shows that there is income to support the three children, mind you these are only guesses on my part.

Presumably then, your intended lives elsewhere? If so, then the rules of how her benefits are assessed should be available and you can make a decision as to which way you want to proceed.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

The U.S. provides food stamps to those who are needy and can obtain only low-paying work (or can't work at all). Food stamps are not meant to be used by couples who can pay their own way in life. With $35K income, you as a couple would be ineligible, and she should not even THINK of staying on the dole. If you or she DO regard that as a factor in your relationship, that is shameful.
