My wife was supposed to apply for our kids passports (2 boys). I am Filipino Immigrant. Filipino citizen. And they are looking for an affidavit of legitimacy as one of the requirements. At the city hall where they were born said they need an affidavit of legitimacy, one filled out by my wife, and one by me. They said I should go the nearest Philippine consulate in my area here in the US to get one of those since im not in the Philippines. Do they issue that here? I dont wanna go all the way to Houston TX just for that. I mean Im from Texas but Houston is way over. Coz the thing is, we had our kids out of wedlock. We were not married when they were born. And so, when I visited philippines few years back we got married. I only acknowledged them as mine but its only up to there. They are not legitimate. We thought having the marriage contract would be good enough to legitimize our kids. My question is, can that affidavit of legitimacy be just sent to me here in the US by mail and sign on it then send it back to Philippines? Or I should really get it from the consul here in my area?
