AOS in Chicago

Hi! My daughter and I had our AOS interview (for K1/K2) this morning. We took the train (blue line) because my husband told me that it would be easier to take the train than driving our car since it's hard to find parking space there and it's usually traffic in downtown. I didn't mind taking the train since there's a train station near our house (walking distance). Our interview schedule was at 9:25am but we arrived there early around 8:30am. We waited for 5 mins at the 2nd floor and 10 mins at the 23rd floor. We were interviewed for around 15 minutes. We were out of the building around 9:15am.

For those who will be having their AOS interview in Chicago, it's the building under construction which is located at the corner of Jackson and Dearborn Street. I was worried at first because I was not sure if they allow cellphones inside but fortunately they allowed us to bring them inside or else we don't know where we will dispose our cellphones if they didn't allow cellphones inside. I remember when we had our K1/K2 interview in Montreal, Canada, they don't allow cellphones inside the embassy.

The officer who interviewed us was very nice and professional. The questions she asked from us were the same questions asked in the I-485 form. We brought a lot of documents but we were only asked for the following:

our passports

our government issued IDs

my EAD card

mine and my daughter's birth certificate

my husband's naturalization certificate

certified copy of our marriage certificate

my husband's 2005 tax return, W-2, employment letter, paystubs, new affidavit of support

our joint account bank statement

my husband's life and health insurance

She gave us an approval letter and stamp on our passports and told us that our green card will be mailed to us. She kept my EAD card and told me that I don't need it anymore since I'll be having my green card.

Since we are married for less than 2 years, we will just be receiving a 2-year green card and she told us that we have to apply to remove the conditions within 90 days prior to the expiration of the green card.

By the way, my husband is the biological father of my daughter. She cannot have automatic US citizenship since she was born before my husband became US citizen.

I forgot to add that the officer also asked and kept our I-94. She also asked for my social security card.

Everything she asked, I showed her the original documents at first and then she took mostly photocopies of them. I have photocopies of all the original documents I brought for our AOS interview. The only original documents she took from us are our certified copy of our marriage contract, I-94, EAD, new affidavit of support and paystubs.
