Hi,

Im a permanent resident and I will be filing for citizenship based on the 5 years rule next

Sept 2010;

this year I lost my job and I will be traveling like: i go out for a month then come back for a week,

then out for a month and back for a week; this for about 6 months,

I m also planning a trip to Asia for 5 straight months,

Does anyone please know the days requirements inside the country for applying for citizenship? is it 180 days or so?

Will all this travel affect my N400 application?

pls advice

thank you

From USCIS:

•has resided continuously as a lawful permanent resident in the U.S. for at least 5 years prior to filing with no single absence from the United States of more than one year;

•has been physically present in the United States for at least 30 months out of the previous five years (absences of more than six months but less than one year shall disrupt the applicant's continuity of residence unless the applicant can establish that he or she did not abandon his or her residence during such period) has resided within a state or district for at least three months

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
