Hmmm.... perhaps there is an audience for Doctor Savage (as opposed to Clark "Doc" Savage - the Man of Bronze) after all

Its an ongoing theme that in every news story he runs with - that the USA is basically 5 minutes away from Doomsday (he uses comparisons to the Nazi era a lot), and that the American tradition is being somehow eroded by "Liberals", "Socialists" and (his exact words) "the Homosexual Mafia".

A first class nutter - on a par with George Galloway and Robert Kilroy Silk.

To be fair, many people made comparisons between Hitler and Bush. Maybe Bush wasn't a great president, but he was far from Hitler.

If they did, it certainly wasn't main stream. I don't think I can think of one occasion where I heard that comparison being made and no, Bush was no Hitler.

I've been listening to his show for a while now - and it follows a theme. Any of the stories he latches onto - he basically presents as evidence that this is the downfall of the Republic and that the Obama administration has some sort of secret fascist agenda to turn the USA into some sort of totalitarian dictatorship.

As with most of those commentators I'm not sure if he sincerely believes what he saying or if he simply does it because those types of views pay well and strong reactions get strong ratings. In a way it would be better if he was sincere - because otherwise he's selling himself out.

As I said - I think comparisons between Savage and Hitler are fairly apt in the sense not necessarily in that they share parity of views (as regards race), but that they use similar rhetoric and argument styles. In some of his speeches Hitler would also play the victim card - where he would use something small and insignificant to claim that the government was not only corrupt but that it was trying to stifle his freedom of expression.

It's actually a little odd, banning books, speech and travel ......and the guy banned gets called "Hitler-like".

I would love to get up with my old Lib teachers to see if they are still spouting that line "....I will defend to the death, your right to say it".

As the "New morality" over takes the Old, it will be interesting you can be sure.

I don't agree with the Home Office ruling, as I have said. That doesn't mean I have to like Savage either.

Indeed, my characterisation of him (as my own personal opinion) is little different to what Savage gets away with on his show on a daily basis.

Surely its a case of free speech for all. Or none at all.

To be fair, many people made comparisons between Hitler and Bush. Maybe Bush wasn't a great president, but he was far from Hitler.

Actually it cracks me up to hear Michael Savage referred to as Doctor Savage, because it reminds of me of the pulp superhero (and the Ron Ely movie).

And I am not a Farrakan fan Either, but as far as I know his speech has not risen to the level of inciting criminal activity, so why ban him too.

I am a big believer in the theory of: the more you try to suppress things like political/religious Speech, the more strength it builds.

I suspect these "Hate laws" will lead to the very thing they say they want to prevent, both by the implementor of these laws and some who resist them.

Firstly - this isn't a law in the strictest sense, only that the Home Secretary has the authority to use their discretion to control who is allowed into that country (and how long high profile criminals stay in jail).

If its any consolation Jacqui Smith isn't well liked in the UK. Her own party gave her the lowest vote of confidence in a recent member survey, lower even than Peter Mandelson (if you know who that is), which is actually some achievement.

Smith taught high school economics before she got into politics - so naturally she was a shoe-in for Home Secretary (likewise Gordon Brown was a history professor and a television reporter - surely the perfect qualifications for PM!). Indeed the only requirement it seems you need to be Home Secretary is to be more authoritarian than your predecessor.
