You are a good employee, you do your job, and you are pretty competent in the tasks that you are supposed to do.

If you have a new boss, who delegates reasonable responsibilities to you, but then doesn't seem to trust you enough to take care of them, then goes behind your back within minutes of assigning them to you and does exactly what he asks you to do, but doesn't include you in any of the discussions, planning, etc...

What does that mean?

Look at the situation: you've got a new boss, right? I'm assuming he's a manager in middle management who recently got promoted. If that's the case, he wants to impress those above him (specifically the people who promoted him). He wants to make sure whatever projects and assignments he gives are performed correctly, even if you and others could do the job.

So maybe this is more of an issue of his "recent promotion" rather than his being a "control freak."

I had a boss like that. She reacted the same way when I used to bring it up. My solution was to quit.

Of course, that's harder today.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Maybe...

For the past few weeks i've been trying to keep an open mind about it.

But then he will complain about all the work he has, and then he'll say:

"Al Hayat, we're going to start dedicating new and more interesting work your way..."

And then, poof!

(okay, he doesn't say "Al Hayat")

With specific examples, dates whatever you need. Then go talk to him.

Ask for full autonomy on your workload/projects. Offer a timeline for performance evaluation. If they refuse to offer the autonomy at this point, you are in a losing battle. If they do offer it, you have your opportunity to shine.

From my management perspective, autonomy (delegation) is the key to success. When I am absent from work, I don't worry, because my team is outstanding.

Good luck.

Since he's new, I'd talk to him about it. Let him know how you felt about what he did and ask him to commit to whatever he has delegated to you unless he has probable cause to then do it himself, at which point, you would appreciate him letting you know why. :)
