Ugh...........I knew it was too good to be true...sent all the AOS stuff in early April and the biometrics appointment is tomorrow.........

But we recieved a dreaded yellow RIE yesterday. They are asking for a copy of Luc's birth certificate. Luc was born in northern Quebec on a farm..he doesn't recall ever having had a birth certificate ...and his parents are dead so he can't check with them. He has a "baptismal" certificate....and for the K1 we had that certificate and three noterized letters from persons that have known Luc since birth..So, the consulte accepted these forms in lue of the birth certificate.

So...why are we having an issue now? Maybe because the baptisaml certificate has his "catholic" name of "Joseph Luc" instead of just "Luc"?

So I go onto the website to request a copy (if possible) but they are requesting information Luc doesn't have ( tax numbers etc for 2007-2008) as he had no income in 2008 as he was sailing around, not working and as such, had no income...

I'm debating sending a letter with the RIE explaining the same as we explained during the K 1 process- any suggestions..?

Hi kate,

I'm confused about where you are saying that they are requesting tax numbers?

I just had a look at the form you have to fill out and I don't see that information requested: http://www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/publicatio...-13%20Birth.pdf

Good morning- Yes, to just enter the site you need certain forms of identification including a "assessment number" and amount on line 199 from last tax form.................

Makes sence that they need these specifics to review request - we just don't have this information!

Hi there Kate. So i called the etat civil here in Montreal for you. They let me know that as long as he has that baptismal certificate that his priest had to register your husbands birth with the province of Quebec. Therefore he can get a birth certificate (long version of it is what he will need.) His green card will also work if he has one.

He needs a valid photo i.s. document which would be his Canadian Passport.

He also needs something for proof of residence. If he has his Quebec drivers license, any govt. correspondance from less than a year old, his medicare card...these would all work.

You would have to go here:

http://www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/en/certificate-copy-act.html

At that website you have all the information, phone numbers in the contact us section if you should have to call them back and also the papers to download and fill out are there. I don't know why they would be asking you for any kind of tax information. You do not need that to get a birth certificate here. You can also have this expedited immediately for a fee.

Please let me know if there are any other questions about the website i can help you with.

And the fact that his name is Joseph Luc should not really matter. I don't know why the govt. would care that he goes by his middle name if all of his other documents were using that. My friend goes by his middle name and never had a problem with the immigration process.

Did they explain why that would be an issue? Maybe I can find some info on that too.

I believe you only need the tax info if you would like to order the certificate through their online service. It is not required for a mail request. I have ordered multiple copies of my birth certificate and Copy of Act of Birth via mail and had no issues at all. I just provided the required ID and received them within 3 weeks. Good luck!

Hi kate.

I just recently got my birth certificate from quebec a couple months ago. I had no problem, sent them a copy of my passport, my health card, drivers licence and a bill with my address on it. took a bout a week with expedited processing. And all i had was an old baptismal certificate from 1976.

my only issue..lol they sent it to me 100% in french and i had to get a new copy in english.
