Hi all

Unfortunately my marriage did not work out and I am heading back home. I was married in NY - we have a pretty basic dovorce - irreconcibile differenes, no kids, nothing to split. Does anyone know of a good lawyer in the new york city area?

Also, what is impact on my green card?

Any help would be appreciated

thx

Do you have a conditional GC? If so, then you would have to petition yourself to remove conditions and have the 10 yr GC.

If you already have the 10yr GC then just be sure you are in the US enough to be seen as abandoning your status. See the info here on the VJ Wiki for guidance on abandoning LPR status

moving to proper forum

If you want, check your local laws but many states will allow you to self petition in a uncontested divorce situation... no lawyers needed

not to pry into personal matters, but i don't think irreconcilable differences is a grounds for divorce in new york. it's one of the toughest states in that respect. check the link below to find out what you'll need to declare but basically it's got to be adultery, imprisonment, abandonment, inhumane treatment or a court recognized separation of over a year.

sorry to hear things haven't worked out :( best of luck.
