Hi everyone,

I am sure this has been asked before, I just cant find it...

Can I travel abroad with my passport although it still has my maiden name on it? Will it be ok when I come back to USA although my green card has my married name?

October 30, 2005 - Married in Vegas

December 27, 2005 - EAD, AP, AOS mailed

January 4, 2006 - received in Chicago

January 27, 2006 - RFE for medical received

February 13, 2006 - Medical received

February 15, 2006 - Biometrics appointment at 10 am

March 1, 2006 - AP touched

March 4, 2006 - AP received

March 8, 2006 - EAD received

March 29, 2006 - interview notice received - May 31, 2006

May 31, 2006 - Successful interview!!! Approved

June 12, 2006 - Green card received

Feb 28, 2008 - will be sending removal of conditions docs.

Your flight ticket needs to match your passport though or you will have problems.

Met online 2001 - just aquaintances

Sept 2002 - 1st US visit - everything goes perfectly.

Dec 20th - Forms recev'd at CSC

Dec 27th - NOA1 received by snail mail!

Dec 29th - 'Touched'

March 10 2006 - NOA2!

March 23 - recv'd at NVC

March 24 - petition sent to London

April 9th - Pkt 3 rec'd!

May 17th - Pkt 3 signed for at London Embassy

May 24th - Medical

May24th - Pkt 4

June 14th - Interview 10am - APPROVED 1pm!!

June 16th - Visas received in my hot little hands 1pm :)

July 19th - flying to US!

July 27th - Married!! :-)

Aug 7th - Applied for SSN in married name

Aug 9th - SSN received

I actually flew twice to Canada (Ottawa and Vancouver) with my passport in my maiden name and my US documents in my married name (specifically AP and later I-551 stamp -due to greencard error) and my airline ticket has always been in my married name. I just brought my marriage certificate and they let me through just fine.

10/21/2004 - Petition sent to NSC

10/27/2004 - NOA1 issued

02/05/2005 - NOA2 issued

10/03/2005 - AOS package sent

10/11/2005 - NOA1 for AOS, EAD and AP

11/22/2005 - Biometrics - AOS and EAD

12/07/2005 - AP and EAD approved!

12/15/2005 - AOS transfered to CSC

01/12/2006 - AOS Approved!

Removal of Conditions

04/09/2007 - Filed I-751 at NSC (filed early - see timeline for reason)

04/30/2007 - NOA1

06/02/2007 - Biometrics

03/27/2008 - Transferred to CSC

04/18/2008 - I-751 Approved! (didn't find out til 11 days afterward)

04/29/2008 - I-551 stamp at Portland office (told of approval)

05/12/2008 - 10yr Greencard arrives in mail!

*phew* I'm done for a bit now - naturalization can wait

I am actually going to go through with the hassle of changing my passport and id's to my married name... :crying: Which means... register my marriage in Peru, update my address in my Peruvian Id' change my name in both Id's and passport... and since my passport expires this august, get a new one...

I have to do all this in less than two months... which involves a trip to San Francisco and get a bunch of translated and notarized papers...

excellent! :thumbs: All the anecdotal evidence I heard b4 you put that everyone always said passport had to match travel docs - hopefully its not JUST cos it was Canada?

So I guess I should amend my reply to 'ask the airline about non matching passport and ticket if you are a GC or AP holder' lol.

Greetings!

Yes, it is true that you can fly using that old passport with your maiden name as long as you provide them with marriage certificate.but think of the hassles involve once in the states? not only its way expensive but the hassle of applying again is definitely not okay....
