Hi everyone! I'm new to this whole posting thing, but have been on the VJ site a lot over the past couple of months reading what everyone has to say about this process, and it's helped a lot with filling out our K-1 application! We're in the waiting period, like everyone else, and it's just getting too much!! In fact, I'm flying out to see my man in 5 weeks ... which leads to my question for you all. Ok, ok, I know you're all rolling your eyes thinking that I'm going to repeat the often-asked question whether I can do it or not. I already know the risks and the possibility of being turned away, but what I wanted to know who has actually tried and succeeded and who has tried and been turned away, especially anyone from VWP countries like mine (Australia). And why were you turned away? I'm interested to see how many people there are out there who did actually try to travel to the US while waiting for their K-1 ...

Thanks to all who reply!

I went to see my husband whilst waiting for the K1 visa. I didn't have any problems with the immigration officers although they seemed to ask a lot of questions. I didn't have any info to say I was returning home, all I had was my return ticket. One thing though, after we had got engaged and I went over to visit, the immigration officer did look at my ring and ask if I was visiting my fiance, which of course I replied "nooo" lol. I felt bad lying but I thought I might of been heading back on a plane home if I had said yes.

Hope you have fun when you go to see your SO. As others might say, take all the necessary documents with you just in case you have an immy officer who's having a bad day.

Tim was detained back in 04 for nearly three hours. We travelled back with each other from England, thinking in our minds what do we have to hide. Maybe they detained us because we were together, but honesty payed off in the end. I was also pulled back for questioning, by this time 2.5 hours into this I was one p'd off woman. My divorce in the states was not yet final so possibly telling the truth saved us, as I was able to answer "do you intend on marrying", with how the heck can I get married to him when I am not even divorced yet. Just be honest, and bring plenty of proof to your ties in Australia. Other than 04' our 3 visits since have been smooth sailing.

My fiance came back from the UK with me in Feb 06 and said he was travelling with me and he came to visit in April 06 and said he was visting me. He had a copy of his return ticket and a letter from work stating he was due back on XXX date. he answered all their questions (yes, they do grill you) honestly and calmly and he didnt' have a problem.

No one can say for sure, but be honest without spilling EVERYTHING (Then you just look fishy). Good luck!

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

I think it depends on who you get at your poa. They have a huge discretion on if they let you in. I have

read posts of people being sent away also. No one will be able to give you a definitive answer. You just

take your cance and have as much documentation as possible.

I came in 2 times whilst the K1 was in processing, both times i was allowed in to the US without any problems.

The last time i came in i was at the 80 day mark on the VWP when we had a miscarrage, we went to the local INS Office in OK and the manager gave me a 30 day extra stay. But he did say, i see from your records that you have been 2 times in the last 7 months, you WILL be turned away the next time you try and re enter the US, please get your visa first. He was very nice but firm about the above.
