Hi All,

I am wondering at what point of time does the paper copy of NOA2 come into use? I received NVC packet like a month ago and am currently working on DS230.

I know if the NVC assigns a case # that means my I-130 has been approved, but it has been a month and I am yet to receive a paper copy of NOA2. I start to worry if I am gonna receive a paper copy at all. The online status still shows 'case pending'.

I called them today and they told me to file I-824 and paid almost $400 to get a duplicate, which I am not going to do... So I am asking if anyone knows when do we need the hard copy of NOA2 and is there anyway to get around it.

I filed the application for my mom. She is still in her own country right now.

Thanks in advance!

What kind of visa did you petition for? It sounds like a CR1/IR1 (maybe...?) since the NVC is handling your case. If so, then you won't need the NOA2. But anyone who filed for a K1 or K3 visa will need a copy of it to Adjust Status after the arrive in the US.

Thanks Diana. The petition is for my mom. I guess the visa type is IR5 but I am not absolutely sure.

I hope I don't need this NOA2 in later stages coz it is hard to deal with USCIS on the phone and there is a large chance that your effort won't make a difference at all. I will keep bugging them but I highly doubt it will work.

Can anybody tell me if an original copy of NOA2 is needed in my case? By the way, the online status for my case still shows pending so I don't even have this alternative. SUCKS!!

I am a newbie here. Can someone show me how to do the timeline thing? Thanks!

Ok, then you won't need a copy of your NOA2. They also took forever to send me a copy of ours but I kept bugging them for it just in case, but we never needed it.

To update your Timeline all you have to do is go to My Assistant up on top and click on Edit / Add My Timeline to enter your info.
