Hello everyone,

we are new to this website recently applied for I130. Our NOA1 is 27April.

I wanted to ask that do we have to add husband's name in passport. Someone recently asked me about it and i got confused. Is it necessary or optional. how much time does it take and whats the procedure.

Some(female beneficiaries) also change their surnames in passport after marriage. Is it also necessary.

please suggest . Have you all done that or thats own choice?

It is some one's personal choice,no obligation.Some people think that it is better as Interviewing office will consider the case really geniuine no marraige visa fraud if name is changed.But I dont know personally if it helps.

To add the name on the last page will require issue of new passport. It will take anywhere from 2-4 wks to get this accomplished. It may help to get an agent to get it faster within 1-2 wks. To change the surname it will require a bit more work, advertising in local news paper and a sworn affidavit. This will probably take 2-3 months. Again, getting an agent may speed it up a bit, but not overnight by any means. Either avenues are done for personal reasons, and yes it will look good at interview time, your choice. Goodluck.

From US immigration and NVC side, there is no need to update middle name of wife from fathers to her husband after marriage.

BUT for female beneficiaries living in Gujarat India that will go through Ahmedabad passport office, Ahmedabad passport office DOES REQUIRE the name change on passport before they can issue police clearance certificate. You will need passport PCC to be submitted when your case transfers to NVC in New Hampshire before they can issue visa call letter. My wife went through this process, she had to get a new passport in India with my name.

So, it is necessary to get married name for wife in Gujarat India if going through Ahmedabad passsport office for their PCC.

If you apply in Tatkaal scheme, it will take Application, indian proofs, passport photos, old maiden passport, and affidavits and Rs. 2500 fee, and your passport will be issued in maximum of 10 days. Be sure to respond to passport inquiry. This is AMD passport office web site <http://passport.guj.nic.in/>

I agree with this. Its an additional piece of evidence at the time of interview. If you have the time and money do it.

Someone from Gujarat should sue the passport office. What they are doing is forcing people into believing their "traditional value".

To OP, yes if you are from Gujarat you may want to change it or sue them for forced harassment. If you are from other state it doesn't really matter. I was advised to change my last name also but I never did and it wasn't even asked during the interview, though I did have my Husband's name on my biometric page but I never took his name.

The Ahmedabad passport office seems to have its own rules, due to the amount of fraud that takes place. You can try and fight it, but be prepared to return to that office several times before you get the result you want.

Thanks for the help.

It needed a copy of my passport, copy of my ID and copy of marriage certificate (all copies attested )and 300/- Rs fee. No need of newpassport issue. whole process takes a week almost +/- 1 day.

I hope this info will be helpful for those who want to add name.
