Hello guys,

First of all, this is a TERRIFIC site! Many thanks for everyone who participates and helps their fellow man.

I am a United States citizen and applied for a visa for my wife. The application was approved, and I paid the AOS, and IV fees online. I will mail out the AOS package within a few days. My wife is still getting the IV package ready for me. She will mail it to me here and I will forward it to the NVC.

There is however a problem, my wife already has NICOP(Pakistani ID card) in her maiden name. I was told that in order for her to file for a passport using her married name, I must apply for a NICOP card for myself first. She will then be able to use my NICOP to get her passport using her new name, then I can forward everything to the NVC (IV package)...

My question is, since I put her new married name on all of her applications, would it be okay for her to file for a passport using her maiden name for now, and use that for her interview? Or is it mandatory that she use her married name on her passport(which would mean I need to wait for NICOP card to be processed)

The reason I ask is because it seems that the application for my NICOP card is taking FOREVER! I do not want to delay things.

Thank you for all your help!

I am not sure if u were born here,Do you have the computerized pakistan ID card. That should work too.The form just requires Husband's name and ID card number(that can be ID card or NICOP).That way she can get her passport and NICOP in her married name.I think NICOP takes about 3-4 weeks :(

She can certainly apply for her passport in her maiden but if you adopt this route ,be sure to put her maiden name in "Other names used" section. It is not mandatory to have married name, but having two last name can create confusions.Being when she arrives here, she will use her passport as her ID for a while until she gets her state ID and other stuff. So her green card would be in her names name and passport under maiden that can cause some confusions.

I would suggest try to get NICOP ASAP.its better to deal with some delay and do it right the first time instead of rushing through things .

Best of Luck
