I need help now with our paperwork. We are up to the stage of NVC having sent the needed paperwork to Manila for my finace's interview to be scheduled. Now I must start on the I-134. Ok, the economy was bad in '08 and to make a long story short, I am self employed more than 20 years. I filed a loss for '08 so now i believe i must show bank statements or assests? My bank account won't do no good at this time, so how do I go about showing property assets? Do I need someone to come to my shop to see my tools, collector cars, etc? This is what I have for assets. Will the banker or whoever use the NADA value book to justify the worth of these cars? Who do I contact, or do I merely send in paperwork to show these assests? I had lots of income in 2005, 2006, and 2007, but had to show the loss for 2008. Now I created extra paperwork. Please help! Thanks!

If you are stating the value of hard assets, you need to show evidence of that value. If your collector cars alone are of sufficient value, I think I'd just get them appraised. If you collected them, you probably have the connections to get their value appraised.

For the I-134, your net assets must be 3 times the minimum annual income requirement, or close to $60,000 for two people. That is after any liabilities on those assets. If you are in the ballpark, then get professional appraisals. Simply saying "I have cars worth $100,000" will not work. For the AOS to follow your assets must be 5 times the minium annual income amount. So decide before you go to a lot of trouble.

It's three times for both. Five times is for other relatives besides a fiance(e) or spouse.

Just to clairify, it is only my Fiance and myself, no children, etc. Only two of us. So if I'm thinking this through properly, accoding to 2009 POVERTY LEVEL INCOMES, I need to show ($14,570.00 x 3) for a total of at least $43,710.00 in hard assets? I will be using only my collector cars. Is this sufficent? As long as I have them appraised, show copies of NADA values for each car, and send copies of the titles in my name, shouldn't this be enough for the embassy to see I have enough in assets? I will also have the appraisal paperwork notorized. Thanks, Lyle

Technically, you might get by with only 100% of the poverty level for the visa but to adjust status, 125% is required. Titles and appraisals should be sufficient, yes but I'd show well over $50k if possible.
