how about finding a company that wants to start a petition on my behalf?

That would work, but I believe the Hb1 visas for this year are done (could be wrong about that), so it'll be at least a year until you can join her. Also, to get such a visa you need to have marketable skills that Americans do not have, (ie your company needs to proof they could not employ a American resident to do the job they want you for), so that usually means being highly skilled, such as a computer programmer, chemist, or speaking lots of different languages.

Student visa would be your best option if you want to stay longer than a couple of months at a time and/ or want to be able to work while in the USA.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

There is a whole alphabet of visa's.

From what you have posted so far, matrriage and a F2.

H1's are still available.
