Gary and Alla always has very informative posts

Level headed responses

I suggest or nominate this poster as a Mod.

I also think Gary would make a great moderator. He does make a great addition to the forum........ :star:

Disagree.

Gary is very informative and knowledgeable. I enjoy reading his postings.

But he can be very quarrelsome and argumentative and gets into long ongoing rants with others on the boards. Most famously with RJ, but even with moderators (happened recently with elmcitymaven).

The purpose of a mod is to be a calming voice and to keep the peace. Gary is simply not a good choice for that. He doesn't have the instinct for neutrality. E.g. how could he possibly "moderate" a thread that got onto the subject of immigration lawyers?

Nope. Vote against.

I suspect Gary would not vote for Gary either.

surely you do not imply that elmcitymaven was correct with the comment that started this argument??? or that comment was waranted, especialy from a moderator....

not trying to sway your opinion, just an observation

I agree with uscandual, Gary isn't nearly impartial enough to be a mod.

And for the record elmcitymaven is not a moderator. Although she is one of the loveliest people you could meet. :)

I agree with uscandual here. Not a good choice at all.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think elmcity was (a bit) over the line with the offhand "not this effing thread" remark that got this whole thing going in the thread from the guy who was boasting of his shopping criteria for a Filipina wife. And it was ok for Gary to call her out on that remark - once. But he made a real point out of dogging her down on it, which I thought pushed it too far.

I'm very confused, Muffin. elmcity moved the post in question to OT - how can she do that if she's not a mod?

I guess that the point I am trying to make is there should be equal representation of male and female opinion. we do not have that!!!

a. How do you know we don't have that. This is the Internet and we all have avatars. For all we know I'm actually a Klingon and you're a Wookie. You have no real way to know the gender distribution of mods here.

b. What difference does it make what the male/female distribution of mods is on VJ? I don't recall anywhere in the TOS when you or I signed up that it guaranteed us an equal distribution of mod genders. If a mod performs the tasks of moving posts to appropriate forums, locking offensive posts, and warning/sanctioning users that violate TOS, then that's all there is to it. I don't have to agree with a mod's POV when they post because their postings are their personal opinion and have nothing to do with their roles as a mod. Unless, as in the case of Gary, their postings indicate that they are not going to be able to be neutral in an online argument. That is reason for them NOT to be a mod.

Like myself elmcitymaven is an organizer, not a moderator. Organizers just move posts that have been posted in the wrong forum to the right one. They have no other 'powers'. :D
