Do they really torture suspects like they have shown that in the film? In Las Vegas, they have to prove that a person is cheating before an arrest is made.

Living in America... provides us with many civil rights..

Please remember that... NOT ALL COUNTRIES have same benefits and beliefs.

Civil Liberties

Civil liberties are freedoms that protect an individual from the government of the nation in which they reside. Civil liberties set limits for government so that it cannot abuse its power and interfere unduly with the lives of its citizens.

Common civil liberties include the rights of people, freedom from religion, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech, and additionally, the right to due process, to a fair trial, to own property, and to privacy.

Fundemental Rights of India

Rights which are considered essential or fundamental for the well-being of a person are called Fundamental Rights. The Fundamental Rights in India enshrined in the Part III of the Constitution of India guarantee civil liberties such that all Indians can lead their lives in peace and harmony as citizens of India. These include individual rights common to most liberal democracies, such as equality before law, freedom of speech and expression, freedom of association and peaceful assembly, freedom to practice religion, and the right to constitutional remedies for the protection of civil rights by means of writs such as habeas corpus. Violations of these rights result in punishments as prescribed in the Indian Penal Code, subject to discretion of the judiciary. The Fundamental Rights are defined as basic human freedoms which every Indian citizen has the right to enjoy for a proper and harmonious development of personality. These rights universally apply to all citizens, irrespective of race, place of birth, religion, caste, creed, colour or sex. They are enforceable by the courts, subject to certain restrictions. The Rights have their origins in many sources, including England's Bill of Rights, the United States Bill of Rights and France's Declaration of the Rights of Man.

Many countries have their own forms of bribery, curruptness, social outcast and yes.. even seeming to us.. Torture.

India is not the only country..... this film just happened to show a rather dark side of India curruptness.

Jamil already won ten million rupees or at the current exchange rate, $202,634.25, was a national celebrity, but the host of the show kind of thought he was cheating, because of Jamil's background. On the basis, Jamil was tortured seemingly all night? Just on suspicion? But certainly generated an interesting story line behind how he answered each question. But to be tortured that way seemed unreal, Jamil could have of easily broken down with that kind of torture.

I mean he wasn't caught trying to steal, rob, or murder anyone or behind some conspiracy to overthrow the government or comment some kind of terrorist act where others were involved for him to reveal the names. That part of the movie didn't make any sense. With his fame, could have exposed his torturers, but he got the girl, guess that is all that counts.

Thats all he was after. It was the only reason he was on the show. The movie was about the small kid coming out ahead. and sometimes when you have had such a terrible life the smallest things are the most important!

You know in a third world country like that, even in my country, you are already a criminal before you are proven guilty. sad huh?

Certainly felt that way in this country with the USCIS.

A friend on mine saw a guy get whipped publically by the police in India. It was a real crowd pleaser.

Immigration is a privilege and not a right. What do you expect them to do? Just let anyone walk in the country.

Anyone from a high risk country is triple checked. Also a no-brainer.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

India's civil rights ain't that great (see Amnesty International) which has something to do with their caste system, but there are places a heck of a lot worse.

Of course slums are slums the world over - and people sadly don't care a whole lot for what happens to a half dozen people living in a tin shack.

 aggravated by the crimes they can do since 1986 to potential immigrants, for which we have no real recourse.

Caution: Amnesty was shown in 1995 (through the photographs accompanying one of its "reports" that year) to have forged the entire report--so not exactly the most reliable source.

But it is true that police worldwide (especially in poorer countries such as India) do tend to discriminate against the poor.

We watched the movie recently and I don't remember what Sujeet said about that, but there is corruption everywhere in India with police and government officials. You need bribes to get things done fast, or sometimes done at all. Sujeet recently got a new Indian passport here by filling in a form and sending the $ to the Houston consulate of India. It got done fast and easy because it's in the US and they just have to do it right. I am sure a bribe would have been needed in India along with some run-around.
