hi all,

i have been a u.s. citizen for 17 years now and my wife and i are expecting our first baby. we would like to bring her mother to u.s. for a visit from nigeria and would like to know what reason should we give for her wanting to come because i'm not sure if coming to see her grandchild will work. any ideas for interview questions/answers to prepare for would be highly appreciated. thanks for all your help!

That sounds like a good reason to come, but remember, that will not really sway them to give her a visa, she will still have to pass the interview.

In the links above - there are sample interview questions.

I would not recommend making up something else because you think it may help the case. In fact, it may hinder it.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

The reason is significant enough, but that is not the major consideration. The major part of the consideration is that she has significant ties to guarantee she will return home. Owning property, Bank accounts with significant amounts of money, business, tribal status (that can be proven) will determine whether or not the visa will be approved.

The rarely question the reason for the desired visit... what they question is will the alien LEAVE the USA on or before the prescribed time.... They assume ALL visa applicants have immigrant intent and it is up to the applicant to persuade otherwise.

YMMV
