Conflicting instructions on I-130

There seems to be some conflicting instructions given by the instruction forms that accompanied the I-130 forms. So for Section 'D' #'s 1 & 2, do we leave it blank or write 'NONE' in the field?

One set of instructions tell us that we must write 'N/A' or 'NONE' in any blank fields, but the other instruction sheet says 'DO NOT USE N/A'....really confused.

The I-130 instruction PDF sent to us from the US embassy says:

3. Answer all questions fully and accurately. State that an item is not applicable with "N/A." If the answer is none, write "none."

BUT

on the I-130 INFO SHEET also sent to us by the US embassy, it states the following:

1. Please note the following items on Form I-130 (the following items must be completed).

• Part B and C Name of the beneficiary must be consistent to the one in the passport. Any other names used should appear in item 7 of Part C (Other Names Used, including maiden name)

• Item 11 of both Part B and Part C (Names of Prior husbands/wives) must be completed. If not applicable in this case, please write “none”.

• Item 18 of Part C (Address in the United States where your relative intends to live) must be completed.

• In item 20 of Part C (If your relative’s alphabet is other than Roman letters, write his or her name and foreign address in the native alphabet), please write in Chinese characters the beneficiary’s name and address, including ZIP code.

Part D You must answer questions 1 and 2. Do not use “N/A”

Which is correct? What should we use?

Thanks again everyone.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Thanks a bunch Nagishkaw, I will definitly use this example as a guide. My only concern though is; does this mean we should just disregard #3 in the General Instructions that states: 3. Answer all questions fully and accurately. State that an item is not applicable with "N/A." If the answer is none, write "none."

Because the example you sent me the link to has several blank sections without a N/A or None.

Please excuse me for digging into the topic more but I don't want to make any mistakes at all.....if I can help it.

For instance: In #17 'INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR ALIEN RELATIVE', I listed my wife in the first one but I put 'NONE' in all of the rest. But in the example you sent me the link to, it left all of the extra fields blank...seems to go against the official stated directions....or maybe I'm just reading to much into it

Well, I would think if the answer is NONE, then that is what you write. If something does not apply to you, then you write N/A.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
