Sorry you can only file for your parents once you have become a US Citizen. After you are a Citizen you file forms I-130 to begin the process. The Visa category for a Parent is IR-5.

Once you are here in the US you will need to get married and then file for AOS once that is approved you will get a 2 year greencard and then 90 days before the greencard expires you file for removal of conditions and once that is approved you get a 10 year greencard. You can file for Citizenship 3 years after you got your 1st greencard as long as you meet all the requirements for Citizenship.

So you are looking at about 4 years before you will be able to file for your parents.

Not quite correct. The poster is here on a K1 and just got her 10 year card. Roughly - she can apply for citizenship in one year and then file for her parent/s. Good Luck you are very close.

According to OP's signature and timeline they have not entered US yet on K1. So the 4 year estimate is accurate.

You may want to look at her timeline:

Interview schedule: April 7, 2009!!!!!!! ----- APPROVED!

visas Approved for printing: April 13, 2009

received a call from USEM visas ready for pick up: April 15, 2009 9AM

VISAs on Hand: April 15,2009 9am

Leaving Manila on June 9, 2009

There is no way a K1 visa holder who WILL arrive on or about June 9th 2009 is going to get a 10 year greencard.

They are not married yet and still have the whole process of AOS & ROC before she can file for Citizenship.

So my estimate of 4 years is correct.

"Visa category for a Parent is IR-5."

and what is the wait period for IR-5 Visa? Filling is one thing, actually getting one (sometimes) is another.

I filed for my parents on March 6th 2009 and The I-130's were approved in 24 days. we are almost complete at NVC and hope to have a July interview.

So 4 months from filling to Visa.

Not to bad I would say.
