I have no idea about Brazilian food, but that fish soup Laura said sounds delicious. I actually Youtubed it and I love it, I may try it if I get a god damn good fish in this city.

And Laura, finally finally I got it how its a kitty in a swing as your Avatar pic, all this time I thought its a spider in its net :P

Yeah, I have a cousin that lived one block from Praia Grande in Arraial, so that was my spot. My SIL has an apartment in downtown Cabo Frio, near Praia do Forte, for weekends or vacations.

Scandal, I dunno about those soups, I've never been to Recife, I used to vacation in Maceió, Alagoas, but still the only soups I know of are the caldo de piranha, but those must be caldos like that, I never bought them from thermos vendors though, only from kiosks.

And both the guaraná and the beer as well as Brahma and others now are all part of Ambev, but each product is still unique looking, the guaraná follows what a guaraná seed looks like and it's called that way 'cus it came after the beer, which was probably antarctica with penguins 'cus it's meant to be appreciated ice cold.

I remember the name of the soups now... they're called cauldinho (probably spelled wrong...). Really? They don't have these in Rio or other places? I didn't realize this was a Recife-only thing. They're all over the place on Boa Viagem and Piedade. If you're ever there, try them!

That's funny!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Hi Sister Nagi, for the longest time I couldn't understand your avatar either. It took me a while to realize it was Native American warriors "fighting terrorism since 1492".

 You're not the first!! Who was it? Len or Amby? Marilyn perhaps? One of the girls also said they thought it was a spider on it's net! It's a cute little kitty! I should probably change it.

They have them, I'm just not a caldinho girl.

First time I took Luis to eat moqueca he ate the whole thing by himself, mind you, they serve them in big clay pots and usually are enough to feed 3-4 people easily. He not only drained it down but he finished off all the white rice and pirão that comes with it.

Btw, pirão is paste like side dish made out of the broth you get from making the moqueca thickened with cassava flour.

I hardly had any good fish out here. I miss fresh sea food the most out here and watching this recipe makes me want to go back to my island home town :P

We almost make it like this except we don't use red pepper.

ETA-- We also don't use palm oil :P
