One thing that iritates me is at the Ubuntu Programming Forum is the n00b who never been to college and want to program major stuff. For example, I can about this thread asking if he can directly program a cpu without an OS using C code and/or assembly code.

The people were replying, "Yes you can since linux is written in C, you can just have it on the MBR."

I was like, what the hell are they talking about. First off, a cpu never speaks high level language. You need to have a way to compile it to machine code. Assembly or C is not machine code. Machine code is 1s or 0s which the processor knows it's a high voltage of low voltage. Therefore, there is no way in hell to program the CPU using C or Assembly without first compiling it. I whipped their arses so much for thinking so simple. He must compile it at runtime which is not simple to do.

Most of them are CS majors. It was hard to dispute with them without educating them a little on computer hardware. The computer engineers designed the hardware, and the drivers for the most part. And, the CS majors supposed to use these drivers as the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) to allow them to program the hardware using higher level languages.
