Hey everyone, I just signed up with VJ today. I'm currently living in Rio with my wife and had a few questions on the DCF. It says legal residence in the documents. My question is do I just have to be residing here for 6 months without exiting the country or do I need to have actually obtained my brasilian residence (2 years here I think) and then 6 months after that is established we can do the DCF? Our marriage paperwork will be signed this wednesday and I thought the only option after that was the K-3 file. If we dont have to wait the 8 months that would be awesome. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

6 months seems to be the rule; but it varies from Consulate to Consulate (as do the legal requirements: i.e. being a resident vs. a tourist, etc). Check out the Embassy reviews (top right side of VJ's page); but I think you are OK.

If that does not fly; then consider the CR-1 or the K-3. The CR-1 is the best visa (it is the one you would obtain through the DCF process).

Thanks a lot, I will be bombarding the consulate in Rio on monday with questions. Fingers crossed

Hi, Randyman

I'm trying to do the same you did. So, what the consulate said about the 6 months?

How is your process going?

Thank you so much!

Regards,

mariela
