Hello,

The NVC has requested that my parents provide police records for the 4 years they had stayed in the refugee camp in Thailand (by the way, the camp now no longer exists). When we told them that the police records aren't available for non-Thai citizens living in refugee camps, they told us to contact the Thai embassy in Canada (where my parents are now citizens of) to request for a letter stating the unavailability of the document. So we contacted the Thai embassy but the personnel at the embassy gave my parents a run around before saying that they could not issue any statement and that it was not their responsibility to write one. They told my parents to contact the UN High Commisioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since the camp was under the UNHCR's supervision. So now we do not know what to do. Any advice will be appreciated.

My parents' situation is not any different from the Afghan citizens staying in refugee camps in Pakistan. While the NVC is well aware of the unavailability of the police records for the Afghan citizens from Pakistan's refugee camp, as clearly stated on their website http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3644.html, they however seem to be ignorant of the Cambodian citizens coming from the Thai refugee camps.

Please advise as to what we should do.

Thanks!

Dalina
