Hey does anybody know, does the NOA mean anything like an acknowledgment your package is complete, or is it just a receipt?

I don't know. I though about the same thing. But I guess the NOA just means that they start working on it, because the first NOAS are usually sent out just a few days after they received it...but I am not sure.

Hey does anybody know, does the NOA mean anything like an acknowledgment your package is complete, or is it just a receipt?

Definition: A Notice of Action (NOA) Form I-797 is produced by USCIS to inform you of the status of your petition. You will normally receive an NOA letting you know that your petition or application has been received, and again when a decision has been made to approve or deny your petition or application.

Hi all, this is Chelsea, US Citizen based in VA, and my husband is Josue from Guatemala (came on K-1 4/19). We were married 4/20 and we are in the process of gathering the paperwork for the AOS now, slow going as other things just plain ole' seem more important...we are closing on our new house in two weeks and we just got a puppy!

But, we need to get his EAD so he can start working asap so hopefully we will be able to send off our package next week!

@ WeAreTogetherNow - have you gotten your driver's license yet? The DMV gave us trouble saying Josue needed to show proof of residency and I had added him to my bank account and had the bank print out that we had a joint account at the same address but they wouldn't accept it; they said we needed a utility bill or a bank statement actually mailed to the house in his name.

Also, we don't know if he can drive using his Guatemala license or not. Any ideas?

Hey Cartman, to avoid confusion, can you delete your duplicate spreadsheet? I already had one going. Thanks!

hey rexalite...sorry abt tht.....

I just composed one that was similar to march and april spreadsheets....it has some more columns/information as compared to yours that could be helpful to others....at first i tried to just update ur spreadsheet to look the same..but urs wasn't editable in the beginning....tht's why i had to create another one tht everyone would have access to for editing.....

if you don't mind, we can continue with the spreadsheet i created and delete yours....

if not, i would have "absolutely no problem" deleting mine.....we can always add fields or update urs.....

let me know.....

My issue with the driver's license was they would only give it to me to last the length of my K-1 visa so that was just three months. It expired yesterday and I'll head down to the DMV tomorrow, but I don't have utility bills in my name either so I'll take our lease (which does have my name) and our marriage certificate. I'm hoping they'll extend it based on that. (Our NOA would really help right about now.)

AOS, EAD and AP Journey

* Married on March 18, 2009.

* Papers mailed on May 8, 2009, arrived at Chicago lockbox on May 10, 2009

* Check cashed on May 14, 2009.

* NOAs for AOS, EAD, and AP issued on May 14, 2009 and received on May 18, 2009.

* Biometrics letter received on May 20, 2009.

* Biometrics appointment on June 4, 2009 at 8 am.

* EAD and AOS touched on June 5, 2009.

* EAD card production ordered and AP approved on June 17, 2009.

* EAD card received on June 25, 2009.

* AP received on June 26, 2009.

* Celebrating five years as a couple with much-delayed reception on June 27, 2009. What a journey it has been.

* Case transferred to CSC on July 14, 2009.

* Received noticed that case is pending at CSC on July 21, 2009.

* AOS touched on July 31, 2009.

* Card production orderd on August 12, 2009.

* Green Card received on August 21, 2009.

Well that would be fine, we can get it renewed. We just want him to be able to get one! Did you have to get a learner's permit or what? Are you in VA?

Hi and Welcome DavChels!

I am located in Michigan and had a lot of problems in the beginning, too, to get my driver's license. As every state has different rules it is pretty hard. But maybe some experiences I had might still help.(?)

Before I got married to my husband (U.S. citizen) I couldn't get one, because I didn't have any proof of residency. No water bill, no lease nothing in my name. But after we got married I could use his bills to proof my residency as it shows on the marriage certificate that we are living together.

As Michigan and Germany have an agreement to accept their driver's licenses I just had to get an official translation of mine. Maybe you want to check that. If VA accepts his driver's license, he can drive with that.

If all that doesn't work yet, you could try to go to AAA or something like that and try to get an international driver's license. That was my husbands plan if they wouldn't have accepted my license. Maybe that works.

I cross my fingers for you and hope you won't have that many problems anymore. (I have been about 11 times at the Secretary of State)

Oh and another tip: Just try different Secretary of State offices. Every time I went to one they told me something different. And some people working there are more helpful and some less. So sometime it is also just a matter of whom you talk to. :)

GOOD LUCK!!

Look my timeline to see how fast they cashed the check and how long took for me have my NOA!

Thank you Nanda! This helps!! :thumbs:

Any ideas?

GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the tips! We'll try going back with the marriage license and hope we find a different woman lol. The DMV website is so difficult to find the information we need - most everything is geared towards new drivers who are 15 or 16, but the only thing for 19 and older is if you have never held a license from another state or country. For 19+ and licensed from another country we can't find info. The woman initially told us he will have to take out a learner's permit and drive with me for 6-9 months and then take the test, and who knows if he would have to take a private class. It's difficult and the worst part is that it is state specific!

Hey Cartman, to avoid confusion, can you delete your duplicate spreadsheet? I already had one going. Thanks!

hey rexalite...sorry abt tht.....

I just composed one that was similar to march and april spreadsheets....it has some more columns/information as compared to yours that could be helpful to others....at first i tried to just update ur spreadsheet to look the same..but urs wasn't editable in the beginning....tht's why i had to create another one tht everyone would have access to for editing.....

if you don't mind, we can continue with the spreadsheet i created and delete yours....

if not, i would have "absolutely no problem" deleting mine.....we can always add fields or update urs.....

let me know.....

Cartman - I am not particularly invested in the spreadsheet, people can use yours instead. But I have to say, I am finding you a bit .... troubling. When you first posted on this thread, your timeline said you had filed your AOS in the middle of April, and you posted on the April filers thread wanting to do that spreadsheet. Now your timeline says that you filed in May, and you go and create a duplicate spreadsheet even though there's a ton of posts about the spreadsheet I created. Obviously the non-weird thing to do would be to add fields or update mine, but instead you totally ignore it. What could the motivation possibly be? Why would you say before that you filed your AOS in April if you hadn't? I don't get it.
