Hello everyone. I am also a May filer, well actually we mailed it on the 28th of April. But we didn't receive the NOA 1's till the 8th of May....so here I am =)

I'm the US citizen, my hubby is a Canadian. Everything has been going smoothly so far except when we tried to go get his driver license =( Apparently you have to have 60 days left before your I-94 expires to get one. I presumed that we had to be married (with a certified copy of our marriage cert) and he had to have a SSN first before we tried for a DL....but getting all that took longer than a month. Anyone know if you can get a CA license with an EAD?

Hi Amy, Welcome and Congrats on your NOA1s!!

I live in San Diego so I'm dealing with CA DMV too. I did the exact same thing as you guys did, I assumed I needed to be married and needed a SSN to apply for a DL so I waited more than a month to go to the DMV and I was told that since I had less than 60 days on my I-94 I had to wait till I get the EAD card or my green card to take the written and driving tests. So let's wait till we receive our EAD cards!

We went ahead and mailed off our package today without the medical. My appointment is next tuesday so once that's done I'll send it off just so that I don't have to worry about it (or should I just keep it until they ask?)

So happy to have all that stuff out of my house!!

congrats on sending your package off! It may pay to keep the medical report and wait and see if you get an RFE first. With all the packages they receive, your medical may get lost or not matched up with your package if you send it later on.

I mailed off the 1-693 with the AOS but i didn't get a TB skin test done as i had already had a TB xray done in New Zealand. So there is a chance i may get an RFE for not supplying the skin test. I have read many different stories here about the 1-693 and the skin test. A few have gotten approved without it and some have received RFE's. So there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to who gets approved with or without it.. (Maybe it comes down to the mood of the person who is looking over the file at the time )

This thread takes me back to the K-1 days. So weird! I mailed my I-485 with EAD and AP on Friday, May 8th and it arrived at USCIS on Sunday morning.

A little bit about us: I'm from Bangkok, Thailand and my husband is from House Springs, MO. We met almost five years ago and finally decided to go the K-1 route. I arrived in St. Louis in February and we were married on March 18, 2009. We're not sure yet if we'll live here or live in Bangkok; we're going back at the end of the year on vacation and will decide then. It's definitely been on hell of a visa journey for us, but we've had a pretty smooth journey (touchwood) and hope it continues that way.
