Anyone else having trouble getting a DL?? On the Arkansas DMV website it says you need photo ID from the Dept of Homeland Security, so I thought I was golden with my EAD but the guy at the wicket told me that I needed a green card. Anyone have any luck talking their way into a DL? My Canadian DL is about to expire - I need ideas on how to appeal this!

I would def go back and talk to someone!!!! Especially if it's on their website!!

Quick Edit:

I checked the Arkansas DMV site and it says this:

INS Documents, as follows:

Certificate of Naturalization (N-550, N-570, or N-578)

Certificate of Citizenship (N-560, N-561, or N-645)

Resident Alien Card (I-151, I-551, AR-3, AR-3A, or AR-103)

My I-485 hasn't been touch after the biometrics...should i worry about it at all? I heard that most of people get a LUD on I-485 after their biometric.

It took a few weeks before I got a letter for interview for the I-485 and my papers went through NBC. I think they take longer overall to touch our files. Although I received paperwork from them on Monday my file still doesnt show a touch from them on the I-485 so I wouldnt worry too much, you are probably being processed.

I had some trouble with the DMV here in SoCal. I had to go to the DMV 4 times in a month -0- ####### ? lol

I had to renew my license [ not sure if it's the same case as applying for a new one] and had some trouble because like you've mentioned they needed an official government issued ID.

The CA DMV requires the EAD card as a form of ID. I actually received a notice saying they are unable to validate the ID and I had to contact the main office in Sacramento, CA in order to fix the problem. [i had to spam the number at least 5 times before reaching a person lol! was fun -_-]

Apparently the main DMV office said I was alright and it should have went through so I had to photocopy my EAD card double/tripple in size so it pretty much filled the whole page and fax it over to the DMV office.

The number I contacted was provided on the notice unable to validated documentation so I'm not sure if there's a number you can contact directly not a 1800 number.

I hope this helps.

Best,

we had tons of problems with driver's licenses. Everyone had a different story for what was needed, it seemed the I-94 was key, but that expired. so they wouldn't give up anything.

that was about a moth ago. and ironically, we just went back again today, this time with EAD, proof of address, passport, SSN and AOS pending papers (NOA1 and Interview Letter) and he got it today!

(we actually took just about every single paper in efforts to be prepared, although it really doesnt make a difference to them... sometimes I just like to 'drown' people in paperwork proving he is legal. especially when most assume he's not)

Hey, I got my AP in mail but I haven't receive my EAD yet. It buggs me since I didn't even get a LUD after my biometrics which most of people do...

Hopefully the interview letter comes soon.

You might still have to retake a test. Even after getting my first license in Mass. I had to retake my written test here in Cali when I moved here. I think whenever you move to a new state and want to change your drivers license you'll need to take their driven test since regulation for every state is different.

My situation with the DMV is a bit different since I had to renew it not apply for a brand new one so they had a bit of a trouble w/ the documentation since I applied w/ a F-1 for my first license and renewed with the EAD card.

Either way g'luck on it.
