Welcome to all the new people!

I'm off to my medical today. I'm not a fan of needles so it should be interesting!

Wish me luck :D

Good luck! Try not to Vagal! I had to have the MMR, and it hurt!

Aren't I helpful??

For everyone else- in a getting to know one another vein while we are waiting, how long has it been (if you're the non-USC) since you've been in your home country, and what's a silly little thing that you miss about from your hometown?

I've been in the US since Sept 2007, probably one of the longest in the May filers. The thing I miss most of all from my home that I never even thought about before is sidewalks! There are hardly any sidewalks here in Arkansas, so when I am walking the dog in my neighborhood, I have to walk on the street, and can't wear my Ipod anymore because I'm afraid someone might mow me down if I can't hear.

Hi my fellow May filers,

How are you all doing? I am from the Philippines and my husband's from Seattle. I've been here since March. Me and my husband got married on May 2, civil ceremony, but our judge made it so memorable for us. She read us a beautiful poem and made us repeat each line with her and I can't help getting teary-eyed during the ceremony. It was just so touching to look at my husband's eyes and say those vows. We have my parents-in-law as our witnesses.

We sent the AOS yesterday and it's really a relief. We felt drained doing all those paperworks. I will take a rest for several days and will start my licensure review for the nursing exam next week. I plan to take it this June or July.

Hmmmm, what I miss most from my home country? I miss riding the jeepneys and some Filipino food.

I am grateful that we live in a neighborhood that is almost the same as the neighborhood I lived when I was still in the Philippines. The bank, grocery store, park, bus stop, restaurants are just walking distance from our house. We live 10-15 minutes drive from downtown Seattle. I love our place and I am thankful that my husband has always been very supportive of me. He takes me to Filipino restaurant once a week. :)

Welcome to the new filers and congratulations to those who got their biometrics.

I wish all of us a smooth AOS journey...

I got my biometrics appointment letter today. My appointment is scheduled for 06/05 but I will go there tomorrow with my husband as that is his only day off for the next couple of weeks and I don't have a car. So we will give it a chance to just show up. What can they do? Send me back? Well, then I come back again for the original appointment. :) It is in Detroit Downtown which is like a 45 min drive so we will give it a try.

I will keep you updated how it went.

I went and got my biometrics done today. I got the letter yesterday with a June 2nd appt. Just to let you all know, it didn't seem like an automatic thing to get in ahead of time. When the security guy asked for my appt letter, he was really surprised I was there 1.5 weeks early. He asked me why I came early, and I said that the appt time I was given (8 am) was really inconvenient as it is a 3 hr drive for me to get there and I'm not a morning person. He opened a door to an office area and asked a woman I couldn't see if they would be able to process me. The lady asked what I was applying for and there was a couple minutes delay before she authorized me to come in. I felt like they could have turned me back.

I have no idea if that is common, or what, because they did process me, and it only took about 15 minutes, including wait time. Just thought I'd let you all know in case anyone else has to drive a long way to their appt.

Well, at least you got it done. And doesn't it happen a lot of times in the US that if you do something "out of daily business" that it is a problem at first? :)

I'll give it a try tomorrow even though it sounds like it makes you feel kind of bad...

Oh no, it didn't make me feel bad at all, but it would have if they turned me away and I had done a 6 hour drive for nothing. I feel great to have it done! I just wanted to let people know, it seemed like it wasn't an automatic or expected thing to show up way before your scheduled appointment.

Tahoma - my husband and I lived in Seattle for awhile, in the Green Lake area, on Ravenna Boulevard. Loved it! Go have a lamburger at Matt's in the Market for me! I miss Seattle a lot.

Kelly - I didn't apply for AP either, sorry!
